My mother is thinking of purchasing an acer 19 inch lcd monitor but she only has Windows 98 on her computer. Can anyone tell me if this will be a problem? Will the newer monitors work with 98?

What model is it? When you find out what model exactly she is looking at, google it, and find the specs. It will tell you there what the minimum requirements are in terms of an operating system.

Why is she still using 98 windows that has security flaws for starters. Just upgrade to XP and all issues are fixed. Vista is getting replaced soon and XP with Service pack III is clearly the most dependable Windows system out there.

A monitor should not have any problem with what system you are running. It is a peripheral and it is there to display what your system unit is currently running.

As long as the cable fits into its slot it should work.
