You'd think a multi-million dollar sporting organisation such as the WCE would know more about coming back from injuries than me and you though, at least you'd hope

Indeed!

As I said, I suspect it's so when he does inevitably slim down due to running, he will return to a more normal shape rather then slimming down to be undersized.

The image looks pretty impressive from an upper body point of view, he was looking bigger this preseason (perhaps part of his problem).

But Reid should have taken a picture of his legs for what it's worth, getting strength into the tendon without compromising healing is the issue and if he's stayed on the weights to maintain fitness he will be top heavy and putting more pressure on those knees.

Exactly

I heard they with lower limb injuries, they tend to maintain fitness with upper body work

Wow. I would be ecstatic if he made it back. He still has a couple of months to get back up to speed. If he is running and changing direction already he certainly has potential to play this season.

There is no way in hell he will play this year (sorry to burst anyones bubble). My reasoning being that Lecca's defensive skills were average at best even while he was fully fit. Every year the defensive pressure that forwards put on is becoming more and more important and will only increase in importance. Coming off a knee reconstruction, a potential weakness will be the repeated "pressure acts" that Lecca is suppose to put on. It will put more pressure on his knee trying to chase defenders. I think he will do a full pre season next year and come back better in 2013.

He doesnt need to defend if he's booting 13 :D

It does sound good, but how do we know changing direction, running, and kicking, aren't to be expected by this stage? I'm fairly unfamiliar with how long it takes to get to the stage you can do certain things....

Well Morabito hadnt started doing any of that till 12 months after his injury. I know he had some setbacks but from what I understand that was all in the ramp up since Xmas.

He had setbacks with his knee and then a bad knee related hamstring injury. LeCras progress is a lot quicker than Morabitos simply by the fact he's in with a chance to play again in 2012.

Justin Longmuir said yesterday that the decision on Lecras will be made in three weeks time . Doctors / Physio's will decide whether to up his training schedule in preparation to play or to cut it right back and prepare for 2013 .

Stunned to see how hard Mark LeCras was training today at Subi. 4 months after knee recon, stepping off both feet, kicking from 50 #chance!

Sounds awesome...but do not want to get too excited just yet.

Twitter says JK running laps too, so good to see already off the anti-gravity treadmill.

86 tackles last year would seem like a fair return for a player who supposedly has poor defensive pressure.

Barra has said round 20ish is the target for a return. If say he is ready round 20 i think he will do round 20-21 in the WAFL and then has the last 2 matches in the AFL season to get proper fit.

Sounds great. Unfortunately, its up to the coach, MC and Doctors if he returns. West Coast do tend to be rather conservative.

morabito didn't look after himself, didn't do the proper rehab etc, pushed it too hard.

Lecras coming back would be akin to when David Schwartz rushed back.

Well its not overly impossible. If hes doing all that he is far ahead of where Nico/Kennedy both are. An extra 2.5 months of recovery and strengthening would put him almost in prime physical condition.
