The Chase is On!
For the first time, the fan-favorite LEGO City vehicles and play sets come to life in LEGO® City: Undercover, exclusively for the new Wii U console. Players assume the identity of Chase McCain, an undercover detective armed with clever disguises. The mission is to put a stop to the fiendish Rex Fury and end his crime wave in LEGO City. As players run, drive and even fly through the city, they’ll use the Wii U GamePad controller as a new police gadget.
Key Features
• The Wii U GamePad is woven seamlessly into the game-play experience. Players use it to scan for hidden clues and criminals, receive mission updates and place waypoints on an overhead city map that displays their position in real time.
• Experience LEGO City like never before. Players will encounter familiar play sets come to life as they explore the vast city, looking for clues to bring Rex Fury to justice.
• Players can go undercover with a variety of disguises, including a firefighter, a construction worker and even a robber, and use their unique abilities to solve puzzles and access new areas of the city.
• There are more than 100 vehicles for players to collect and use to explore the city, including sports cars, motorcycles and even aircraft.
• LEGO video games are known for their humor and parody, and LEGO City: Undercover delivers this and more with fully voiced characters and ambient crowds, bringing LEGO City to life.

Release date: 28th of March 2013

Price: $74 @ JB HI FI

I think it will be great for parents who have kids too young to play GTA, but really want to.

So many parents have been very impressed when talking to them about this game in store. Their kids beg them for GTA, but they refuse. Now they'll have something to play along the same lines

I'm sure the kids will be wrapt playing Lego instead of GTA. :p

I think Glenno has shown that there is at least one demographic who will be very interested in it.

It's not a demo that's going to go out and spend $400+ (system and game) for it though. Will it sell well amongst U owners? I imagine so. Will it move systems? I'd say almost certainly not.

I beg to differ. This is a demographic now familiar with Nintendo products following the Wii.

To say it won't "move systems" (what an amazing middle management phrase) at all strikes me as an exaggeration.

It'll sell A system, but it's not going to be selling millions of Wii U's, that's for sure. There's just not enough power in the franchise and license to be able to do that.

Couple that with just decent reviews so far (79 on MC - http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/lego-city-undercover/critic-reviews). It's not going to be doing anything special.

Metacritic is wonky. I wouldn't use it as a reliable source of anything, and for the most part I prefer reviews that don't give a score at the end.

I don't expect it to be a major title (ala Pikmin, Mario Kart and Wind Waker later this year). But I suspect it will sell more systems than you are expecting.

I'd agree on Metacritic if this were the usual 'unknown site/publication seeking attention with their shitty review score', but there's some big names in there. Edge with the lowest at 5/10, Joystiq with a 6/10 and Destructoid too at 7/10 representing 3/5 of the lowest scores.

I guess we'll find out sales wise pretty early on, but anything over a million units will put it at the equal of the highest selling Wii U games so far (anything over 400k units will place it 3rd), which I just can't see happening with the very little marketing that there has been.

Parents are really into it, for their kids and themselves. Everyone loves Lego.

I'll give some system moving credit to Monster Hunter as well. The timing with Lego City and Monster Hunter means more systems sold.

In Japan? Monster Hunter certainly isn't a system seller in the west.

Are we going to get a story every time that happens? Because it was well known before launch that external hard drives would be a necessity if you wanted to download games for the Wii U.

Its not like i made a whole new thread for it..... It was a news story about Lego City Undercover, in the relevant thread
