Why not Steve Nash has got it the last 2 seasons for putting up good numbers during the regular season and taking his team no where.

Conference finals aren't "nowhere"...but leading a team that was the undisputed best in the league heading into the playoffs, only to melt down in the first round - now THAT'S nowhere ;)

Im pretty sure Dirk has played in the NBA finals... something Steve Nash has never done.

If anything it reinforced to me that he's a worthy MVP.

Because he was nowhere to be seen this series and his team's performance reflected that.

On the flip side, Nash had a below average series against the Lakers, and yet Phoenix still cruised to victory.

He's not the best player in the league, neither is Nash for that matter, but he's certainly proved his performance affects his teams results significantly.

I agree Lenny.

The funny thing about the MVP it seems to change every couple of seasons in what people vote for. It used to be the best player that year from a winning team, MJ, Barkley, Malone, but now its the player that makes everyone else better.

Barkley and Malone only got it because everyone was sick of MJ winning everything lol.

IMO it's a bit crap that Shaq only has one MVP award, because there was about a 4 or 5 year stretch where he should have won it every season.

Basically for the last decade, were it up to me, Shaq and Duncan would have pretty much alternated between the award.

I addressed this point in my first paragraph 2 posts ago.

What it boils down to is that for a guy who is probably going to win MVP by a large margin, 1st round isn't good enough. Nash didn't make the finals in either of the past 2 years, but he wasn't so shockingly insipid in the playoffs and at least made it to the step below the finals.

Couldn't agree more with you Lenny.
