thats a pretty fair summation tiggywigs. and agree with most.
as you said any rating system is unavoidably subjective and in that i disagree. wont go into names as all it will do is deflect from whats being said. i will say though i think youir on the optimistic side with your ratings.
so i guess if im miserly and your optimistic theres probablky a middle ground.
i have to say last yr while we took some players i would not have at the picks we did. the process we went thru last yr was a good one.
we maintained our place in the draft, in fact we improved our position to a small degree. we also managed to get some badly needed experience cheaply onto the list at the same time.
i for one know we needed to get a competetive ruckman, or at least try to get one. as such i dont have a problem with getting maric.
marics time at adelaide where would you place him dependable or expendable. to me either way its borderline. as such i would not have traded for him with a second round pick.
i would prefer we now find a way to get back into the draft preferably even earlier than we were. i think this is what we should be trying to do.
If we were to go down that path that would mean in all likelyhood we would have to offer up one of the dependables or project players we have.
any ideas on how to do this.
from your list which ones from these groups dependables/projects do you think firstly, we can most afford to lose, and secondly which ones are likely to get the deal done.
cheers.
Sorry for the delayed response SC, been out of circulation, and now events have moved on somewhat. As we all know, RFC agreed with you that we needed to trade back into late first/early second round and found a reasonably clever way of doing it (not that I saw it coming).
Interestingly, some of the 'expendables' I nominated proved to be just that (Nason, Farmer, Morton etc), although I was mildly surprised that they cut a project player like Contin.
As for Maric, I'm already on record as saying his aggression would be the key reason for his recruitment, and the media interviews make it clear he understands his role. FWIW, I think it's a sensible gamble and I expect him to quickly assume 'Dependable' status (barring injury).
Lastly, it's clear from the delistings that considerable improvement is being expected (or at least hoped for) from medium sized players in the project and expendable category (such as Dea, Webberley, White and Edwards) given the lack of taller players being cut.
