Coach Scott Gowans said:

“Lexi is a versatile key position player who is very strong in the contest, and she’s deceivingly quick, especially considering her height.

“She’s a natural leader in that she really drives the positioning that you need, which is why I think she may play down back.”

North ruck headed to Sydney

YOUNG North Melbourne ruck Lexi Hamilton is set to land at Sydney.

The Canberra product will be at her third club, having played one game for Gold Coast in 2020 before signing with the Kangaroos as an injury-replacement player this year.

The 21-year-old (whose full first name is Alexia) impressed for the Roos at VFLW level, and played two AFLW games in 2022.

Younger sister Cynthia, a midfielder, is set to be a top draftee in the NSW pool this year.

"Although Lexi has only been with us for a short time, her work-ethic and attitude this season were terrific, and will no doubt hold her in great stead in the AFLW moving forward," North Melbourne AFLW football performance and list manager Rhys Harwood said.

"With increased levels of player movement, we understand Lexi’s decision to pursue another opportunity, and thank her for her service to North Melbourne."

I didn't realise Lexi was so young. That makes me want to cut her a little more slack. I don't think Lexi has been performing as well as Smith and Mitchell. However, even though they are both (marginally) younger than Lexi, the fact that Lexi is still only 23 means I want to give her a little more time to keep maturing and developing and showing her worth.

It's high time I gave this thread a bump.

Here's an interview with Lexi and Alex Donnelly of AFLW Today (and the True Bloods podcast) from back in late pre-season (July): .

I've enjoyed watching Lexi this season. I think she has been a solid contributor to the team and offers a big of height, which we lack, and also strength/physicality (something that is discussed a bit in the interview).

And here's another interview I found with Lexi from the 2024 post-season: .
