Press the record button on the remote (the one with the red dot) or set the timer through the XStudio Pro mode. You might want to read the manual as well

well to be honest i cant remember where i put my manual, secondly i press red nothing happens.

Are you pressing the correct red button?

IIRC, there are two red buttons on an LG remote. One that is fully red for teletext functions and then a grey one with a small red dot which starts recording function.
