In the words of Benjamin Disraeli, "There are 3 kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics". My question to you is, which Adelaide player is most flattered by statistics and which Adelaide player is least flattered by statistics. For mine, Brett Burton is most flattered and Ken McGregor least flattered. Your thoughts.........

least flattered - ben rutten

most flattered - gotta say brett burton as well
Given that he was made AA Fullback, I think Benny has been recognised despite statistics. I guess I was more saying which player gets no recognition as the number of stats. is lower than some. Also I think in general, not too many people look at statistics for backline players as critically as they do for forwards and midfielders.

I wonder how long before the curse of the 30 statistics = a brilliant game, anything less= hopeless, is replaced with a true reading of each players impact on the game?

i'd say now days macca's stats probably overrate him a bit. Doesnt really have the same impact he used to.

Bassett with his third up spoils would be one of the most underrated.

stats in general are useless to compare players imo.

Are you serious?

Macca rarely collects more that 20 disposals.

IMO, he has an impact larger that what his stats might reveal. He doesn't collect stats that don't stand out (e.g a quick handball dish or a chip kick in a series of posessions). His disposals are generally on the run and very noticable.

yes i think you are right. I was thinking more the damage of his touches are often in the back half and is no where near as damaging as what they used to be. He would of been the most damaging player on our team 3 yrs ago. Doesnt quite have than same finishing anymore.

One player who does get alot of stats without necessarily dominating is knights in the SANFL. Whether that changes over the preseason and when he plays at afl level, who knows.
