What he as was saying was that if you're on the football field - don't punch. full stop. If he wanted to say 'don't punch people hard in the head', he would have said less.

Yeh alright I see how he might have meant that.
But even in that scenario, the point of contact would make a difference.
Punch someone in the thigh with the same power you punch them in the throat or nose, you get a very different result.
