Thomas will be very good for us, other teams would kill for guys like campbell and thomas in their forward line. If they can keep the pressure level up and finish off their work, they could both potentially kick 50 odd goals next year. We should have a more mobile forward line next year with Hale and Josh Smith/Tarrant as the talls, CJ, McMahon, Edwards, Campbell and Thomas as midsized and smalls. Should be a bit of competition for spots, unless Jones is traded (don't really agree with).

I was the one who mentioned Garlett. That was in the context that I think small forwards are like ruckmen, in that you should have three on your list.

One who is the top dog (Campbell), one who is a good back-up (Ross) and one who is a long term project (Garlett).

Wouldn't want to trade if you only had two, as if you trade one and then the other gets injured you are left with no quick-footed small forward options at all.

So it was in terms of list management, not in terms of Garlett's skills (which I can't comment on as I've never seen him play - even on TV).

If other teams would kill to have them on their list, then perhaps they're prepared to offer a high draft pick. If so I'd pick the lesser of the two of Campbell and Thomas (it's a tight contest) and trade them.

It's a business, and you have to trade quality to get quality.

We all know there are things worth reading on this forum, and things that are an absolute waste of bandwidth and time. But that's the nature of the Internet. Everyone has a right to speak and we have to waste our time filtering through shit daily.

In another thread I had Welssfan questioning which GF I actually watched after I dared to suggest that Steve Johnson had an average game on Saturday. But he had 34 posessions!!! Who gives a toss? He has bucket loads of talent, is paid to kick goals and assist in others doing so. How many goals did he kick and how many goal assists did he have?

But that's ok. Everyone is allowed an opinion. And thank God, as far as I know, nobody from Bigfooty works in our football department.

Our midfield is full of slow, poor skilled taggers or quick, light bodied wingmen-types. We need some quality bigger bodied midfielders, and clearly will need to trade quality away if we want to get quality back. Good small forwards can be gotten late in the draft, and in Campbell & Thomas we have two, therefore the idea of trading one away.

I doubt we'll do it, but as a way of getting a good player into our club who better meets the skill-set and body-type I'd prefer, I'd do that trade.

The guy is 20 years old, played all games, kicked 32 goals, laid 65 tackles, won a few games off his own boot, contributed in many others and people are laying the boot in him?

Cmon guys, the kid had a good season.

Agree completely, mate.

Alot of the bagging has come from posters that don't have a clue.

Every year I fall for forgetting how ridiculous these pre trade threads are. Every year I continue to be flabbergasted when I should know better. If trading for quality was as easy as some people on here make out every team would win the flag every year.
No wait, that can't work.
If it's so easy why do so few teams get it right...?
WE ARE NOT TRADING LINDSAY THOMAS!!!!
20 year old potential gun. In return we'd get an unknown quantity and quality.

Of the many things that get written on here that I don't understand, bagging LT is one I really can't get my head around.

He has flaws, but I reckon that is exciting. If he works through them and continues to improve, his upside is huge.
Imo the holding the ball up in the air for a kid pisses me off, really not a good sign about the coaches box, the hugging after goals is too soft, really would like him to be a good kick, but if hes ever going to make it he needs a lot of improvement. I just think if were going to get serious with this list the fools gold mentality needs to go, this flashy no substance or reliability stuff cant be good. His value would be reasonably high atm as laids played him endlessly. May have been better to drop him down at the end of last year to get some form. Just an opinion is very healthy debate though

This draft is deep, LT is a forward pocket and will never be anything more.

We need midfielders.

Not in expense of our forward line. LT has already become an important cog in our side & you want to trade him?

If LT is to have a long-term future at North, it will be in the middle eventually. I don't think the long-term plan with him is to create a career forward pocket.

He has a ton a pro's to his game, and a fair few con's, but FFS, he's just a kid.

OK i'll bite, needs a big preseason, is at best a forward pocket, albeit a medium sized one, as for a midfielder, I'm not at all convinced, no way do I want him traded but his work ethic when he's in the midfield is pathetic.

I agree - he had a great season. I see some deficiencies in his game which concern me though:
1. Poor decision-making occasionally when kicking for goal & going for marks.
2. Poor disposal by foot.
3. Goes missing for extended periods.

But he is young & may be able to rectify such issues - if he can, he will be more than valuable. But don't forget how guys like Aaron Davey struggle after their first season.

It will be interesting to see where he's at in 2 years.

LT being a great, exciting, productive small forward with lots of upside doesn't also exclude the possibility of him being traded for something more valuable (like a great midfield option). Both ideas can exist together.

I doubt very much whether this would happen, however, and don't think it should. Lindsay has been a very valuable pick-up and at only 20yo, the future looks bright. He only gets bagged when compared to Flash, which is odious.

Thomas: 2008 Games: 23 2008 Goals: 32
Campbell: 2008 Games: 22 2008 Goals: 32

Thomas: Career Games: 35 Career Goals: 42
Campbell: Career Games: 35 Career Goals: 42

Ain't the complete picture, no doubt, but striking nonetheless.

LEAVE HIM ALONE! 'Tis but a mere child. Looking forward to seeing him grow over the next couple of seasons. Yes, he can go missing, but that could apply to a number of players over this year. The midfield is our problem and if we can get that right, LT will be a weapon not just a commodity as appears to be the opinion of some on this board?!?!?!?!?

This draft is deep, LT is a forward pocket and will never be anything more.

Seriously when we had Thommo and Rocca I would have killed to have a Campbell and LT in the same team.

When Petrie was playing the ruck a couple of years back I would have killed for Hamish, Hale and Goldy to be ready.

Yes we need mids and a FB but we have for the last 6 years (like most clubs).

You may trade for a Dal Santo but you will never get a FB, just use the picks we have to find the best available at our spot.
