is it just me or is everyone at local councils just a fat, lazy, useless, minimum wage, public servant ****?

seriously they are most useless level of government. get rid of them asap!

Yep you should see my local council just lean on a shovel all day talkin crap, only good side of it is they get free gym membership.

I hate council's more than most I think - in my experience they often include some fairly dodgy characters - and quite power-hungry too.

Maybe Australia should look at removing one tier of Government. I am not really sure how this could work, but I think that we do have one to many levels of direct authority and tax collection. To be honest, most councils I have had dealings with don't have much authority or motivation to act - barking dogs, abandoned cars, consrtuction etc. It always seems like it is a hassel for them - but isn't that why we pay them the rates???

Parking Fines and restrictions are another of my hates, but maybe I'll save that for another rant

But I diagree that you hate councils more than most. I seriously doubt you hate them as much as I do.

There are far too many local councils in the metropolitan areas. Massive scale council merging needs to take place.

Furthermore, the councillors need to be full time employees with a proper wage, not part timers who get paid peanuts (that's why most here in WA are old fossils with nothing else to do or local businessmen who want to stick their nose in the trough.)

They are basically pointless. Get rid of the State's and make local councils bigger with more funding and they will be 100x better. At the moment they useless, however getting rid of them is not possible.

The logistics behind that would be monumental! To much work would be needed to be done for that to occur. I just can't see that happening, IMO.

Oh and like the OP pointed out, the local council employees are lazy sods.
