I have created this thread for just general Perth discussion.

And mainly because my rant below didnt have an existing thread to go in :)

Some of you may not care but check this. I'm watching the news and they are now ready to put recycled water into the mainstream. It wont get into the pipes for a few years yet but they are preparing me and you for it. While listening to the radio during the week there was a bloke saying how the Water Corp (W.A) has lost over 30 billion litres of water last year due to pipes leaking and general maintence. Now you would think that they would spend money.....OHH NO, The water corp's funding/assistance from the government has been slashed some $370 million. I dont care how many treatments this water gets.........I am fully opposed to this idea.

Would like to know what people think of the whole recycle water idea

Would rather drink recycled water than have the city go dry.

As Perth's climate gets drier and drier this is going to be inevitable. Rainfall has declined in Perth over the past couple of decades, you only have to view the Bureau of Meteorology's stats for Perth to see that the amount of rainfall received each year on average is dropping and with the population here one of the fastest growing in Australia, recycled water is going to be a part of life as the demand for water grows.

The only other long-term option the government has is to build a pipeline from the Ord Rover to Perth. That would cost at least $6 billion and the government just cannot afford to do that with the numerous other projects being built at the present time.

Why not recycle water? The water will obviously go under extensive testing before use. You're not going to pick up any funky diseases or sicknesses.

Well I recently had this discussion with someone who's involved with the waste water side of things and from my understanding the water either gets pumped back into the ocean or otherwise back into the aquifer so either way it's 'cleaned' by the time it gets back to you.

And can you imagine the backlash if people start getting sick? Not going to happen.

So that's not a Corona in your avatar is it.....

I once drank piss out of a tooheys extra dry stubbie and didn't notice the difference

True story
