In a suburb just near mine there's a McDonalds, has been for about 10 years. Just across the railway tracks across from it there's an Op Shop that's been there for years and years but has been going broke. Earlier this year they finally ran out of money and were closing down. Word was KFC were going to buy the property and finally set up shop.

However then the Op Shop was suddenly saved by an "anonymous" donation of $100k. The donation came with the conditions that the money was to be used solely to fix up the Op Shop and to ensure it stayed in business. And who did the donation come from?

McDonalds.

Anyone else got any interesting local stories?

notice anything unusual about this subway? yup, the background colour of the sign is black instead of the green subway is known for. why? larkhall is a rangers town. and green, the colour of major rivals celtic is looked upon with disdain. there have been occasions where rocks where hurled through the window of the shop on the back of results when the 2 teams have played each other, forcing the shop to change the colour. yup, football violence at it's best.

It's amazing they didn't burn down the 'green' trees next to the Subway.

lol. well, in addition the green light on traffic lights now have guards over them because there have been occasions when they've been smashed out for the same reason. the trees are next. :)

The suburb Maddington in the south east of Perth was apparently first settled in by old Italians who were a little crazy. Word is that the name Maddington comes from 'Mad Ding Town'. There are still a few old Asbestos ding houses with grape vines in their yard which have been there for years.

That sounds like bullshit to me.

There a re kinda folky or similar traditional stories or fables, and they contain place names too.

One of the many folk tales (such as how the hedgehog beat the hare in a race) plays in Buxtehude which is in the metropolitan area of Hamburg .(but quite rural already)

When I had friends staying over who came from further south and only knew the stories and they saw the destination for the train they couldn't believe that the place actually existed :D.
