Hi All,

I know this aint the Whirlpool thread, but thought I'd get the opinion of a few of you on here.

I have just been to hell and back with Dodo, and after cancelling the service I never got, I'm looking for a new ADSL 2+ provider. I'll need the following:

- Max 18 month contract (preferably 12 or none)
- minimum 500GB data (streaming foxtel and apple music most mornings and evenings, and 2 laptops being used)
- good speed (I'm 500m from the exchange so that shouldn't be too much of an issue)
- price not more than 70 per month
- pain free service

Anyone care to post a review of their ISP? I'm currently looking at Belong (subsidary of Telstra) and TPG

iinet or internode imo.

best customer service too.

tpg and telstra (and therefore any subsidiary of) sucks in customer service.

telstra far too expensive tho most reliable.

tpg has very cheap rates and mega data....but unreliable service.

but when i was on internode/iinet i never had problems anyway, or ONE problem, then they fixed forever.

in saying that im on telstra cable at the moment because i hate adsl2 and have to wait till i can get the NBN.

i also always prefer a month-to-month plan rather than locked in on a contract. im sure most (not all) offer such a thing....internode does, telstra does, not sure about others.

how is optus reliability? just been offered a reaaaaaaaally good bundle - $100 for unlimited internet and 10GB mobile plan
optus reliability is very good, close to telstras. they are much better than telstra considering all things....as in, you get the near reliability, much better customer service, plus always good deals and prices. they always keep updating their plans and deals too, and if you're on a long-term plan, you can often then find months later theyve got an even better plan and you can switch to it.

NBN will be nationwide sooner than later. imo if you dont have NBN in your area yet, choose a cable service (not adsl2), and you get blazing speed and reliability, and just wait till NBN is ready, then switch to it.

adsl2 you constantly have problems with the technology....ports down, copper wiring fraying, etc etc.

as in, I would love to use cable, but the infrastructure for the cable is owned by telstra, and their plans are too dear for me - so ill have to stick to ADSL for now
Why can't you just sign on with Optus Cable? They'll install their own box. It uses the same infrastructure from the street pole.

They flat out refused - said if adsl is available then cable isnt an option. here is the chat

Jasmine A:Thanks for waiting, I see that you can get ADSL2+ service with us at (address withheld)

Jasmine A:You will get a socket at home to get the service and you can get the service.

Jasmine A:It will be just Plug and use.

You:why is there no option for me to get cable then?

You:i have all the existing infrastructure, including a coaxial cable into my premises

Jasmine A:For Cable we use our own infrastructure, so we cannot use Telstra for Cable.

You:but do you not use the same infrastructure from the street pole?

You:all you need to do is install your own box

Jasmine A:No.

Jasmine A:It will be different line for optus Customers.

Jasmine A Drawn from Optus.

they just run their own cable from the street pole to your house and install their own box.
that's what they did in a house i was living at before.
there were two separate cables running from the pole to the house, with two separate boxes.
did you ask them, can you join optus cable plan and just have them install their own infrastructure there?
if they said no....then how long till NBN comes to your area?

i think they said "no" because when NBN arrives, all cable and adsl2 will become obsolete. they're just saying no imo because they cant be bothered with NBN probably very close to your area.

All of a sudden, Foxtel have come out with a huge deal, entertainment and sport for $51 a month, free install and equipment.

Thinking I might just get that and a small internet package for the first year, 100gb or something. Then I can churn at the end of 12 months if needed. Considering most of my streaming is Foxtel, maybe that would free up a lot of bandwidth

Ahh choices

after all that.

Cancelled Optus
Signed up for 12 months on entertainment + sports for $51/month, inc free install and box
Signed up for TPG 500GB plan

now, who wants to buy an xbox one? :D
