Losing by a point

Always dissapointing but I expected to lose by at least four goals beforehand and I believe it is pleasing and showing we are going in the right direstion. What do you think?

i tipped the eagles this week confident that we could get over the top of them... must admit there were patches in the game where the skill factor let us down way too much

turnovers are a major concern at the moment and really need to be addressed, along with the kick in and ruck situation

but i still think there have been good signs for the club since Woosha took the helm

I thought it was going to be a close one, but in the first quater I was getting very worried as they were looking very flat. So I'm pretty happy with the boys fight and determination to come back not once but twice. Just need a little more work on thier desposal, but the effort is there.

It was disapointing to come so close and lose but I was pretty happy with the boys today.

The Eagles played terrible in the first half. It looked like they went back to habits of 2001. Last year they would have lost their confidence half way through the second quarter and ended up getting flogged. To the Eagles credit, they kept their chins up until they played themselves into some form.

At last the Eagles are heading in the right direction.

I expected them to be well beaten. Five days rest after a derby in heat and humidity and a flight v 9 days rest, no travel a home crowd and friendly umpires.
In the first quarter I saw what I expected to see...a flat team with lack of numbers at the ball.
But I am really wrapt with the comeback and display overall.

We almost have too many top class midfielders, hence playing Braun and Taylor in defence. But they will learn and adapt or end up playing WAFL whilst Harding, Carrol and Wooden get their chances

I tipped us to win and it was disappointing. (Option1).

However, last year, basically the same player group would have lost by 10 goals, because they were badly coached and would have given up.

We are going in the right direction.

theres no doubt the dedication and morale has improved, its just a matter of getting the skills up too... thats the difference between sides like us and the top sides

I voted 50/50....as Frodes said, shorter break, travel, the heat against a long break, no travel and home ground but then i also thought we were still good enough to beat them.

Was disappointed to get so close and then lose but it was still a fantastic effort by the boys and all this with Cousins in rather indifferent form. How will we go when he gets back into form?

I definitely think we can beat the Bulldogs at home next week!

I voted 50/50. I expected us to win, but with the factors Frodo listed I was cautious of a flat team. So I was both pleased and dissapointed at the same time. Considering we lost by 87pts last time, we look to have improved by 86pts.

Going on what happened to us last year, plus the fact that people tipped Collingwood to get better, and us to get worse, I was expecting to lose in the vicinity of 40 pts.

After the start, I thought hmmm....maybe 80 pts.

To see the way we fought it out, it was the least disappointing close loss I think I've ever seen.

After the first few minutes, i thought this was going to be a game where we got our a$$es kicked, so I am happy with the fightback and the way the players never gave up.

If this was us last year, it would have been over at 1/4 time, so I am happy with it though we did lose.....

we are on the up......can't doubt that....

i'm not sure how i feel. On one hand we didn't win, and frankly i'm kinda over us coming second. On the other hand however we didnt give up, lots of players were fully PLAYING and TRYING and PUT IN SOME EFFORT!!! so i'm only going to be slightly heartbroken today if only b-coz last year i was proud of them if they all stayed upright throughout the game.

And if the guys hadn't suddenly forgotten how to kick a football, then they would have. It was very fustrating, and I must have slammed my fist against the coffee table at least 50 time during the match.

We should beat the Bullies next week. No excuses if we don't.

I'll echo that- a miss is as good as a mile, and we're going to have get some wins. But by god its nice to back in the situation where *every* game is winnable, and when the boys play poorly, we lose by one instead of eighty? If that game was played last year under Judge, we would have shown up, looked a bit flat, Brodie holland would have done his thing, and we would have been down by 30 at quarter time.
Thats where things change- Judge would have given up, the players would have given up, and by halftime, we would have been down by double that margin, and would have ended up losing by 90 or something ridiculous. They stayed in the game from start to finish, which, if you aren't going to win, is perhaps the best way to lose?

I voted for 'I thought we had a 50/50 chance of winning and was dissapointed'. We have to remember we lost to Collingwood by about 80 points last year - so we've definately improved on where we were at last year. We could of easily been blown out at half time, instead showed some spirit and got back into the game. Our skill errors and decision on who to give the ball to cost us the game, but thats something that can be improved.
