Losing CDs

Deadset, this ****s me to no end.

Over the past 6 months I'd have lost Quality Control by Jurassic 5, Bleed American by Jimmy East World... and numerous other albums that I can't exactly think off the top of my head.

I know in this day and age of CD burning and what not, sure it's not big deal... but it's pretty dodge having the CD cover and whatnot with a piece of crap 50c disc inside.

Anyone else share this frustration?

yeah. My stereo got nicked, and there was a Rowland S Howard cd in it, which is deleted.

Also, my car stereo got nicked, containing Aphex Twin Classics.

I have a bad habit of taking a CD out of the player, and putting it into the case of the CD I'm about to play, eventually I put away all my CDs forgetting I've done this, so the discs are all in the wrong covers.
Three months later I pull out a CD to play, and the case is empty or has the wrong CD in it, so I have to go through all of the damn CDs to find the one I actually wanted to play.

Very annoying and time consuming.

On the subject of CD burning, I just don't get why anyone would want a burnt copy of an album over an original.
Unless the album is like ultra rare or something, I don't see the point, the album is not complete without the artwork, lyrics, etc.

And damn those artists who don't give lyrics

coz it saves 20 bucks

but yeah, i am always losing cd's. i suspect that people "borrow" them without telling me, then "forget" to return them.

thought i lost pumpkins 'adore' but found it inside my interpol cd case this morning.

why pay $25-30 for a booklet that you're only going to look at a handful of times? especially if lyrics aren't included. even if they are, you can always get them off the net anyway.

of course if it's one of your favourite bands then you will more than likely buy their releases, but generally:

downloading > purchasing.

I generally burn CD's because I can get 50 for 50 bucks, instead of paying $1500.

Also, most CDs bought from stores don't have 180-odd tracks.

Definitely.

Because i have a CD Changer, i often don't put discs back in their cases, thus they tend to go missing quite often.

I spent 12 months thinking someone had thieved my prized Hendrix disc, only to find that my old lady had put it in another of my cases during one of her monthly cleans at my place.

Works for me.

I've probably bought 2-3 CD's in the last 12 months, much easier to d/l them.

Besides, the pricing of CD's is atrocious. They should be under $15, across the board.

I do that too, glad it's not just me.

As far as burning CDs goes, I only do it if there's stuff I can't buy in the shops, which is fairly common with a lot of the Beach Boys rarities and solo music, particularly Carl Wilson. Otherwise I'll just buy it/already own it on CD.

OR if I have tons of artists where I only like a few of their songs.

Because it's part of the album! I think it's better than not having the booklet at all.

Burned CDs never sound as good as the original. And downloadable mp3s are especially shocking in the sound quality depatment.

I hit upon the perfect solution a few years ago. All my CDs have a blue dot on them. If I'm at a mate's place, in someone's car or at a party I can spot a "borrowed" CD from a mile off.

That and putting the right CD in the right cover is the true path to CD happiness.

Since then only one of my CDs has gone missing. And I think it is in a stereo I packed away before going O/S.

It's true, do a comparison. The only way you'll get a burned copy sounding even close to the original, is if you buy a very high quality blank CD. It would probably cost about as much as the original album.

I'm very anally retentive when it comes to my CDs, I never lend the bastards out, I know I will lose track of them. Don't have the same hang ups when it comes to videos or DVDs.

I'm missing one though, I swear my former housemates girlfriend slotted it in her CD changer as I seemed to have gained a Powderfinger CD. She denies it for some reason... so why the f do I have a Powerfinger CD when I would never buy one of their crap albums.

You can get really good quality CD's with a good burning program that allows you more configuration options when burning the songs. So you can get the same volume level and sound quality with every song rather then it changing every few tracks depending on the quality of the initial download.

I don't generally lend my CD's out, if a friend really wants a CD I have I'll just burn it for them and let them have it. Keeps everyone happy.

It's the best option, I'd rather give them a burnt copy which costs SFA these days than risking losing an original.

They are all in alphabeitcal order and I have a file on my puter with the name of every cd I have.
