Luke Darcy again showed with his speech at the rising star awards what a class act he is, his reference and story of his little friend with down syndrome
was a gem.

One day I would love to see this guy as coach of the bulldogs

Luke is very well spoken and would be great in some media capacity at the club. Don't forget he will be on 10 from now on in special comments role. Doesn't strike me as the type that could be cut throat enough for the coaching role. But sure could be a good skills coach. Hope fully he will be around the club in some capacity as he is a good face to the public.

That story was very funny.

Darcy’s advice for the 'Bambis'

EVERY AFL footballer needs a "Libba" and a Liam in his life, just for some perspective.
Each year at the NAB AFL Rising Star awards function, a prominent player makes a speech about his time in the game and usually passes on some advice to his younger colleagues in the room.
At Wednesday’s ceremony, Western Bulldogs ruck-forward Luke Darcy spoke only a few days after his retirement and 11 years since his Rising Star nomination.
Darcy's two anecdotes from the day a few weeks ago when he announced his retirement, involving former teammate Tony "Libba" Liberatore and a fan named Liam, were priceless.
Having just announced this would be his last season, Darcy was starting to let the compliments and back-slapping affect his judgement.
But as he was thinking perhaps another season was not out of the question, Liberatore sent him a text message.
Liberatore christened Darcy "Bambi" early in his career because the rover believed he had never seen someone fall over so often.
The message read: "Bambi, congratulations on your career - I suppose a lot of people will be pumping you up and saying you had a great career.
"I prefer to remember you as our worst-ever captain.
"Good luck for the future, Libba."
So that took care of going back on his retirement.
Then there was Liam, who has Down Syndrome.
Against the best advice of Liam's Dad, Darcy gave him his phone number earlier this year.
That meant 15 calls a week, which would always start with Liam asking, "Are you my boy? Are you my boy?", followed by a plea that the Bulldogs win.
Within minutes of Darcy's retirement media conference ending, Liam called and the conversation went like this:
Liam: "Luke, what's happened? "”
Darcy: "I'm really sorry mate, it's the time for me to give the game away."
Liam: "That's okay, can I have Aker's number?"
Darcy is eagerly awaiting what might happen if Liam starts talking to Jason Akermanis, who is never shy of a chat.
"I haven't yet passed onto Liam Aker's number but, when I do, I'd like a transcript of that conversation," Darcy said.
"My great hope is that Liam might be the only person I've met who actually listens to what Aker has to say."

They should really explain that Darcy was actually the captain for about 2 games. Otherwise it just sounds like Libba was being a bastard.

The way Darce told the story about Liam was nice - he also said when Liam rang him [15 times a week] after asking 'You my man Luke?' he would ask 'Are the Dogs gonna win this week Luke?' and Darce would say, 'We're going to try our best Liam.'.........then -
Liam:'Are the Dogs gonna win this week Luke?'
Darce: 'Yes, we're going to win this week Liam.'

:)
