Rumors flying around that Luke Ball will be at Hawthorn next year? Has anyone heard anything that the rest of us don't know?
Polak aslo out of contract. Could the Hawks score both of them? Will the salary cap allow it?

its been said many times. why would you leave a club bound for monumental success, in which u are a vital player. to go to a club who right now dont look like they could organise a pis$-up in a brewry.

polak wont leave the dockers, but if he said he wanted to then the eagles will do a deal with the dorkers.

But remember Luke Hodge has put off signing his contract so Hawthorn may be losing him.

And as has been said why would you leave St Kilda to join Hawthorn at this stage unless the money offered was ridiculous and I doubt whether Hawthorn are going to do that considering previous experiences.

Luke Hodge is already talking to his beloved Richmond.

This is not a Joke.

dont like the look of hodge so far at the hawks i think a different club is what he needs. the kid is a genuine star, but its just not happening at a team like hawthorn right now. I sincerely doubt ball will leave the saints, its just too damn exciting down at moorabbin right now!

Ok, lets entertain the possibility of losing Hodge. What would we ask in return?

I think we would ask for both their picks in the top 5. They would say no, and offer pick 5 and a fringe player, we'd say pick 2 and fringe player. That could lead us to pick 2 and rodan/pettifer?
Again this has a 1% chance of happening but its an interesting possibility.

hawks could just re-draft him with there (likely) number 1 pick

BALL LIKELY TO RECLAIM SAINTHOOD:
Coming out of contract at the end of the season, Luke Ball who originally decided to leave negotiations until the end of the season, however he has given the Saints no reason to worry.

Ball, the picked up at number two in the 2003 draft, has all but signed on the dotted line with St Kilda who had undeniable faith that the young midfielder would remain a Saint.

Ball has reconsidered his end of season signing decision and has announced that he would like to reach an agreement before the commencement of the finals series.

"Yeah, I think so. I think that's probably the idea now," he said.

"I'm very happy at St Kilda and the call was towards the start of the year that I just wanted to concentrate on footy and do it at the end of the year."

"Obviously we're approaching the end of the year and I spoke to the manager the other day and we're pretty keen to get things going now."

There was speculation that Ball could make a move to the struggling Hawthorn to join his brother Matthew.

"Obviously the brother thing is there so naturally you guys (reporters) are going to throw up those sort of suggestions and because I might have barracked for Hawthorn as a kid and all that sort of stuff."

"But I think we're past all that, and as I said I'm very happy at the Saints," Ball said.

I dont think they can re-draft someone that has left on their own accord. They could however, delist him, then pick him up again.

That would be interesting.

Pick him up with your number 1 pick in 2002, Delist him at the end of 2004, pick him up with your number 1 psd pick in 2004.

What sort of a player would the Hawks have then?

Taken him with 2 number 1 picks, and delisted him...

Swans shafted Richard Osborne (I think it was) in this way and caused a rule change.

A player who is delisted is not automatically elligable for the draft, they have to nominate (this was a result of Ischenko shafting Brisbane by 'retireing' and going to North). A player who is delisted can choose to nominate for the national draft or hold off and nominate for the preseason draft. In the Luke Hodge scenario that is what he would do.

In practical terms the Hawks could not redraft him against his will. There is a grievence tribunal and provedures where a player is allowed to change clubs (via the preseason draft). The AFL would make it pretty clear to the Hawks that redrafting him would be a no-no because the whole draft system would collapse.

The pre-season draft is the get out of jail free card that allows the AFL to defend itself against restraint of trade action. If a player wants to change clubs they can so therefore there is no restraint of trade (so the arguement goes) ... if a player was redrafted then that ability to change clubs would go, it would be restraint of trade, court case, very angry AFL.

So if that 1% chance comes off at Hodge wants to play for Richmond, and Richmond have pick 2 (Hawks 1) in the preseason draft, there is nothing the Hawks can do to prevent it. Like the Rawlings case (or the Nick Stevens one) they'd be faced with losing him for nothing or trying to get back at least something of value.

Not completely implausable that the Hawks force Ball into the draft, Richmond get Hodge into the draft, and the Crows get Ottens into the draft. The Crows would only then have to get Ottens past the Bulldogs which cash wise should be possable.

Thanks Weaver.

Hodge will be at the Tigers if Wallace is signed as coach of the Tigers.

Thats just my opinion though.

His worth would be about pick 8-10. However, he is a number 1 pick, he's saved them 3 years of development, he's talked up as a leader, he's in the big 3 of Judd and Ball, Hawthorn will play hard ball. All this could mean Richmond will end up paying over the odds compared to Hodge's performances to date, but who knows how good he will be.

Luke Hodge's management team will be meeting with Greg Miller after the Coaching situation is cleared up. They have primary discussions already and it is believed Luke's first preference is to be with Richmond next year.

Luke Hodge is out of contract and if he and his management do decide to go to Richmond, then he will simply go in the PSD and be snapped up by Richmond.

At the moment all the rumours are true and Luke is dismayed with the Hawks and with Greg Miller already showing interest in Hoge, his boyhood dream he now knows could be a reality.

Greg Miller was also woohing Graeme Polak and offered his management a larger contract than he got with the Dockers, but Greame decided to reamain at Fremantle.

Nah, just send him into the PSD. He is out of contract at year end.

Simple.
only one slight problem its the dogs that currently have pick 2 in the draft and i can see us doing another rawlings type trade if need be. I am confident the ladder will finish:

14: rich (5 wins)
15: wb (4 wins)
16: hawks (3 wins)

in that case the tiges have little choice but to give us what we want or lose him to the doggies. But i still hold hope that he will resign with us.

i tell you what if hodge is dismayed at what is happening at the hawks he will be in for a rudder shock at the tiges, hodge i am confident will only end up at one of two clubs: us or the dogs*

* that is as long as the ladder stays the way it is or the tiges offer us a lot!

What if Hawks beat Richmond by 5 goals?

14th Bulldogs
15th Hawthorn
16th Richmond

hahaha

We'll struggle to kick 5 goals!

Tigers are the best of those three sides, and the ladder will reflect that.

Richmond have got no ruckmen - round 21 Everitt will slaughter them and with a tall forward line the Tigers will get pumped big time! Besides we have Danny Frawley coaching us! Danny versus Donald McDonald- it sounds like a Disney cartoon! If only it was funny!

Obviously the meeting didn't go too well! Luke Hodge just signed with Hawthorn for 3 years!

Just a question, i heard a rumor that the dons are trying to get Luke Ball.

Any thoughts on that? or who else they might be after. Also who is out of contract for the bombers at the end of the year, the last few years we have been screwed by loosing players. It better no happen this year!

THOUGHTS?????

Cheers,
Hornskull

Ball went to Xavier, and was good mates with Jobe Watson.
Sheedy's son was in the year below Ball.
Ted Richards also went to Xavier.

Meh...just helping you out with your theory. Don't think Ball will go anywhere and if he does, it will probably be Hawthorn so he can play with his brother and for the side he supported growing up.

I'd rather Dal Santo than Ball, but we've probably got no chance of getting him - we'll take what we can get!
