you'd prefer the other player to be free other than hodge, so our player would just stick with him...the other loose man would not be as effective

That's what you'd prefer, yes....

But Hodge knows that he is not accountable to any single forward so he just runs where he wants to and not where the forward runs to

Way around this is to isolate the forward line with a big forward (say Ottens) very deep and a quick forward pocket (like Varcoe) way out to the side to keep the loose defender away from spoiling a long ball to the goal square

BDP I have been thinking the same thing for a few weeks now Max will just sit on Hodge all game and hurt him going forward

Could we use a similar tactic to what we used in last year's qualifying final against the Roos, and try to isolate Hodge's man in the forward line, much like we did with Archer's man that day?

Vercoe would get SMASHED by Hodge.

Can someone post the full Max desktop?

Want to give a reason why? Lately Varcoe's chasing, pressure and tackling have been excellent. I dont think Hodge would be allowed the space and time to "smash" him.

I am yet to understand why people think Hodge will get the time and space the Dogs afforded him.

Why?

  • Hodge is much better overhead.
  • Hodge is much better at the contested football.
  • Hodge is stronger, especially through the core.
  • Hodge has better skills.
  • Hodge reads the play better.
  • Vercoe doesnt get enough of the footy to make Hodge accountable.
In short Hodge is a very good player. Those who think he is just a loose man in the backline need to wake up and pay him a lot more respect.

how many hawks games do you watch to make these observations?

gram is not in hodges league but varcoe seemed to do okay against him on sunday. think he even ran gram down a few times.

that said, it would be more likely a kelly/rooke would play that role on hodge, if they were to.
