With Smedts and now Mackie out, Thurlow, Rivers & Kolo are the ones who would be in the mix.

Thurlow should definitely play in my opinion. Rivers will most likely get the nod if fit, although I would love to see Kolo get his chance.

I'd say Kolo has the bigger tank at the moment. Thurlow had missed a lot of training, so I'd say Kolo, going from the VFL games I've seen also,
he's our best bet. For Smedts, perhaps we could bring in both.

But, I'd like to see a bit of a mixup of the team, with either Kersten or Walker (the latter on form), come in also.

The injury is certainly not good news for Mack. All the best to him for a speedy recovery.

But the opportunity to get more games into young players is certainly attractive.

Thurlow would have the edge in terms of 'readiness' for seniors footy.

But Kolo has the continuity of training (and playing) through this pre-season.

And then of course they could potentially simply bring Riv back.

But, given the Suns likely forward set-up, I hope one of the younger blokes gets the nod for this week.

Great news. We may finally get some run and composure off half back.
I've been hesitant to write Mackie off to hard but I'm with you on this one. He has probably been the player that has disappointed me the most so far this season. He looks totally disinterested and seems to be just going through the motions. He has lacked intensity and effort. I'd like to see him dropped on form (rather than not play due to injury) and hopefully it gives him the kick up the arse he might need. I'd also like to see Thurlow take his chance and make Mackie earn his spot back in the team. Going on form so far this season and late last season he is way off being a walk up start in my opinion.

I think Kolo is bigger and less mobile than people think/hope he is. He is no Mackie, that's for sure.

I expect Rivers will replace Mack. Thurlow is the most like for like but he probably needs more VFL time for fitness.

So for the backline what mix of six is the best out of the likely candidates

Rivers kolo Thurlow Bews Taylor Lonergan Blicavs Enright??? Need run off half back. Can Thurlow provide that despite a limited pre season? We probably won't get it from Bews...

Think Rivers will come in, unless they feel like bringing in youth I would prefer them going with Kolodjashnij.
Remember when Thurlow was underdone for Round 6 against Port last year...

Thurlow might be a little underdone.
Can see the MC sending Jimmy back for this one.
In saying that, I would prefer Jimmy there rather than Kel.

I've been a little more vocal that I probably should in regards to Mackie but I thought his return match on the weekend was very poor. He looks like he's lost a step and although he took a couple of very timely marks in one-on-one contests, he was for the most, at sea out there. Most of the guys were but this is a very experienced campaigner.

I think he's done to be brutally honest. Some in here did not like it when those comments were brought up either but he was pretty average last year when the club needed him most and I think he will quickly be overtaken by one of the new guys pushing for selection.

I'm not sold on Kolojasni at all in the short term. Have seen 2 vfl games this year and has been far from impressive. Composure is questionable and in all honesty Blicvas getting the nod to play defence says a bit. Also no nab cup action for kolo tells me he might not be ready. Thurlow would be my replacement. Even with limited pre season. Bartel/kelly is another option.

Nothing wrong with that at all. What will be worse if is a few other players collide with the wall at the same point.

In more concerned with Enright.

Yet.

He is capable, I think it's more an experience and confidence thing that will come with more games. At the moment I'm pretty sure he would be given the simple task of staying in his opponents pocket which he's done very well so far.

Guthrie to HB and Duncan & Caddy in the center more, Duncan not tagging Bennell.

so am I but at least Boris is not going to die wondering, he'll be doing everything possible to find out if he's cooked or not.
Judging Mackie's physique this year, he's had an easy going summer.
Even the video updates the club kept posting after Christmas, you see Mackie constantly at the back of the packs taking it lightly than most.
