He looked out of place last night.

Everyone in the geelong team looked like they were starting to fire but he just made stupid decisions and poor kicks.

Is he always like that?

Re: Mckay.

Mackie was shocking last night clanger city, jimmy was Mr Fumbles

They were calling Mackie Apples on K-Rock last night, because everytime he got it there'd be a turnover.

Re: Mckay.

joel selwood and joel corey were the standouts last night.

..but all in all, the whole team was pretty shocking.
it was good to see we fought back and got a hold of freo in the last qtr.

Re: Mckay.

Mackie was horrid last night. Still coming back from injury. Really important to us when playing well. Huge drive out of defence and real icing on the cake stuff. Need him to improve over next week or two.

Yeah he was ordinary. He was poor last week too, my guess is he is just rusty and unfit coming back from injury. Plus he is the sort of player that excels in a more free flowing and less contested game than against both Freo and Sydney.

Usually one of the better kicks in the team IMO.

That kick across field to wojak running in and then kicking a goal was a feature and shows the sort of things that he is capable of. Still has to prove himself useful in tough encounters. May just be a good times receiver. I get "quality late developer' vibes from him. May develop into a utility type like Dasher in a couple of years and well all love him the same (maybe) but worth persisting with for now IMHO

Give him a couple of weeks and he'll be back to normal. However, if he does have another poor week they should maybe consider dropping him back to the 2's for a brief stint. Having said that, he will probably improve against Brisbane, who's football style suits him.

He cost us at least two goals with his turnovers. That's a lot in the context of that game.

He has been very average all of this season if you ask me. One of only a few you would have to say has played worse than last year...

+ One thing many people forget about Mackie... He gets WHIPPED in contests, which often never shows up on stats sheets. Take a good look at how easily he gets pushed, bumped and out-bodied by the opposition. This happens far too often. If he isn't efficient with the ball, he isn't much use.. plain and simple.

frustrating in first half but improved markedly once he started having runs up the wing, 1-2 more weeks he should be firing

He'll be right. Just needs a bit more time.

Unfortunately he's a defender, not a wingman. His defensive skills are by far the worst of all the defenders... he is useful due to his ability to move the ball from defense, he'd better start doing this well or he'll find himself in the VFL. His disposal / decision making has been pathetic.

Another thing about Mackie that annoys me is his inability to ride a tackle. Gives it up every time... the other players in our side do this better than any other in the league. His size / stature make him very one dimensional. People compare him to Milburn... Pffttm no way. Milburn is tough as nails and always has been!!
