dont know if this has been asked or discussed, had a snoop around and didnt see it.

I dont get to keep up as much with the news back home over in the states but if Essendon could pick him up with pick 2 couldnt you conceivably do it with pick 1?

Would you want him, I mean he would add a bit of flexability and improve your spine.

A few reasons why we wouldn't/couldn't pick him up.

1. We have already committed to Cain Ackland, and he has signed a 3 year deal with the Carlton Footy Club

2. Mal Michael has already signed a 2 year deal with Essendon, so even if we hadn't committed to Ackland, we could pick Mal up in the PSD

3. He doesn't fit into our youth policy of being 24 years of age or younger.

Not quite right there HBF. If we hadn't committed to Ackland, Essendon would be in breach for signing a contract with Mal. Michael would certainly be available for us to pick up in that situation.

By the way, youth policy be damned if we are talking champion players with 2-3 years left in them. We have a dearth of quality older players so it wouldn't have hurt.

While he's a hell of a player, I'm not sure we need someone of Mal's character at the club.

If we where talking about a renowned team player like a Matthew Clarke or something, I'm sure we could mount a case for an older player given how young we are, but Mal's a different story.

So what you are saying ODN is that Essendon could only sign Mal once we had committed to a player, which in this case, is Ackland?

Very true Oz. He's left both Collingwood and Brisbane is less than spectacular circumstances.
