very happy with mick i think he is coaching the best of his career.he has assembled a great team which has fast tracked the development of young recruits, hats off to mick

You have to admire how the players are going about it even if the disposal skills are sub par. MM looks to be getting performance from the players and the game plan looks sound. Early days but all encouraging signs. As per last year he has to respond when we come under greater scrutiny and get worked out. My greatest issue with MM is still his ability to work out talent and complete a list. We’ve been here before.

i'm sitting halfway between the two of you. i'm not gonna be so quick to pump up mick's tyres just yet, however i also think this has the smell of something different, there is an increased depth in the number of promising kids, where as in other years we've had good kids, but only 1 or maybe 2.

He has appeared to have a long term policy of trying to get players who can play multiple positions, ie HBF/HFF, flank/center/wing, mobile ruck, etc. Possibly at last this is actually paying dividends and players are giving him a vision that is useable for what I believe is an ambitous game plan for a relatively young team. His ability to rotate tired players off ball and put up fresh skilled on ballers has made up for a perceived lack of pace. I mean players like Swan, Johnson, Davis, rotating with O'Bree, Thomas, Lockyer, Burns and now Pendlebury mean the tempo can be maintained, well done Mick. I think the clangers will continue because of the lack of experience and the tempo the players move the ball at. But they took a major step in reducing clangers last week and that will have to improve as the players settle. I liked the unruffled approach that no changes allowed in the team against Adelaide. What affect will the AWOL incident have on team continuity? IMHO 8/10.

Mark , it is pretty well known on this board that your problem with mick is list management and failure to recruit a ruckman. I also have some issues with this expecially Micks reluctancy to move some blokes on-see Tex Walker. Having said that he does seem to get alot of of the list he has to work with. I think at an admin level they need to not let Mick have as much say in list managment and focus purely on the team and coaching staff-clearly his stengths. Perhaps this is already happening and we don't know about it.

We do know about it. It was pretty much what eventuated as part of the review at the end of '05.

He'll still have some say in who we draft & delist (how could he not?), but not as much as previously.

It has been assumed but an assumption is all it is.

As for MM’s coaching, I think he has been good this year. I will always remember Leon’s 2002 GF and MM’s 2003 GF. That’s when you have to perform and that’s when Collingwood people have let us down all too often. When we have to fight tooth a nail to win a close checking match (2002 QF and GF) MM comes into his own. When the opponent gets things on their terms (2003 GF) he is lost. MM is far from the worst coach as I have said repeatedly but as I also keep saying that isn’t the measure. We aren’t competing to be good we are competing to be the best and list management terrorism aside MM shows little coaching flair.

I will be more than happy to be wrong and watch him hold up the cup though.

2003 was an awful day and we were terrible. I saw the game on foxtel for the first time the other day since the day itself and despite how bad we were brisbane played as well as a side could have played on gf day. They pulled one out of the box. Considering their iffy finals form leading up to the game they were unbelievable.
