Didnt get destoryed in his 3 man of the match performances against them in 2011 did he? easily our most most consistent cm and pretty much guaranteed a starting place when fit

Lets face it our midfield is average and there is no week in week out match winner.

Carrick, Fletcher, Scholes and Giggs while all having there moments in recent years (Scholes and Giggs are legends) would not make Chelsea's or Cities starting 11.

IMO Carrick when he first came to the club was a great passer who had incredible vision. This has become secondary to him lately as his role has changed into more a defensive midfielder. Hardly puts fear into the opposition.

Fletcher has been much maligned as a United player, had a cracking season several years back and puts in some good shifts but is hardly a dangerous player.

Giggs is a legend but his best is way gone.

Scholes another legend but he cant do it week in week out.

Compare these against Hazard, Mata and Oscar and it shows just how weak our centre really is as the 3 from Chelsea are frighteningly good.

Pretty sure a forum is about opinions so clueless is over the top.

I would suggest every Man Utd fan believes we needed more power in the midfield offensively and defensively because what we have is not up to it against the very best in Europe and this has been the case for several seasons now

Nah, Carrick is average. When partnered with Scholes, he is completely robotic in passing to him. He isn't bad but he is average.

Not about the forum but media and fans in general. He gets a rough ride from fans and media but players and coaches that work with him speak so highly of how he makes everything tick especially opposition players, including the Spanish ones

I think his only problem has been his partner. Fletcher has been ill, anderson isnt good enough for the a-league, scholes is ageing and not mobile (so as good as they are individually, as a partnership they arnt great) which means whoevers there hes doing a lot of the work. I think the emergence of Cleverley is going to be a massive bonus for him, as good as scholes in the 06/07 side

firstly im in complete agreement that United should have a better leading midfield. Its been our achilles heel in the last few season and im amazed its something we havnt touched up on in the market. Yes weve been leached dry by our owners and are in huge debt but money has been spent on other areas but not this one.

Secondly I dont rate Fletcher. His illness took away everything that made him good, his energy, pressing and strength and I dont expect him to recover.

However I dont believe Carrick should fall in this bracket and has been pretty much trying to hold it together and has been the constant mainstayer in 4 premier league titles and 3 champions league finals. Hes needed a decent partner for years.

As for making other sides. Yes, I believe he would make city. Hes clearly a better footballer than Barry and Rodwell and England have finally realised this. Same with Chelsea, Mikel and Ramires are not the best center mids in the league, and Carrick has had 4 unbelievable good games in our last 5 against Chelsea

Similar sort of players, both underrated by opposition fans. Agree that Barry is better defensively but than Carrick is a better passer.

Yeah same, the days of United really hammering teams are numbered. Loved it when we ripped teams apart. I reckon QPR will score an early goal and we will fight back to win 2-1.

Our team is actually quite poor in terms of midfielders. Look at other top teams CM. Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Ozil, Alonso, Khedira, Toure, Hazard, Modric. We have no one like this. Is it just simply due to not enough money? Who knows. But what we do know is we won't be feared again until we improve our team drastically. Real or Barca would never lose to Norwich
