Correction: banned in Australia *because of* WA :p

What a waste of time, the game's nearly been out for a year. Perhaps now people will understand why Sandgropers think they are living in a nanny state.

Well done WA. Banned a sh1te game and saved many people from wasting their money on it.
There are plenty of other games out there with just as much pointless violence, but at least they are well designed & implemented.

Hehe....agreed.

Although I don't believe any game should be banned.

In fact, I was thinking about how ridiculous ratings systems are the other day.....

I was watching The Passion Of The Christ, and the people who have seen it will agree that it has some of the most graphic and disturbing violence ever seen in any movie. Horrible violence that just goes on and on and on, and gets worse and worse and worse; just when you think "how can it get any worse?", that's exactly what it does. It's horrible stuff, and the movie is arguably completely one-dimensional because of it.

The movie's rating?

MA15

Then you take a game like GTA3 which was BANNED in Australia until they edited out the hookers, because the act of killing the hookers after you'd paid for their "services" (which in the context of the game is far funnier than it is disturbing) was apparently "sexual violence" which apparently carries an R rating.

It's so insane.

For a start, Australia needs an R rating for videogames. It doesn't have it - that's why GTA3 was banned.

And secondly, some consistency and common-sense needs to be applied to these ratings.

Passion Of The Christ is a hell of a lot more disturbing than GTA3, yet it is only given an MA15 rating, and to me, that makes no sense at all.

But then, we live in a country where marijuana is illegal while alcohol is advertised constantly as being "hip" and "cool" (no mention of the problems it causes - hey, there's money to be made for all, and we don't want to upset the beer-drinkers!), so I guess it's crazy to ever expect things like this to make any sense at all.

I actually really got into Manhunt (PC version) as a tactical game...timing your moves right, planning your assaults (especially the later levels where you had no hope of surviving your cockups), and sneaking your way around from hidey hole to hidey hole. In some levels I could literally sit there for six or seven minutes watching the AI hunters go about their work while I plotted and schemed.

The gore was initially a bit grisly, then a novelty to try and get the different animations, then it just became part of the game and you really didn't bother going for the full kill unless you had to.
