Following on from the Seaby thread, I'm interested to see what people think of Drum. I would have thought he was a more appropriate target.

He is Victorian , 22 yo, Tall key position player that could play either back or forward. I'm not sure why he can't get a game for Freo at the minute but he looked very good a couple of years ago. Perhaps a Freo fan can enlighten us. Also, I think he was a top 10 draft pick in about '05.

He is out of contract at seasons end and I think we could get him for next to nothing or via the PSD. I think he is better suited as a backman which is probably our strength at the minute (if we were to have one) but he would be worth chasing.

Thoughts???

Whose spot in the side would he take? Jurrah, Watts, Bate? or in the backline even less of a chance Rivers, Frawley, Garland, Warnock?

No way will he fit into our best 22, at least you suggested we could look at him through the PSD. Quite frankly i am getting sick to death of everyone wanting to fill the side with fringe players from other sides in the bottom 8.

Continue with the youth, this draft is the last draft before its raided by Gold Coast get what we can while we can. Look at our last 2 PSD's Martin and Jurrah, both plcuked from nowhere and arguably have proivded the most improvment out of all our draftees over the last 2 years.

Calm down there Saj!

It is a discussion. That is all it is. Clearly you don't like the idea but others may. There had been talk earlier this year that Garland may have been released up forward like he was originally drafted for. As for young players - I wouldn't have thought he was old at 22!

Freo have a bad record with releasing players that go on to other clubs and become successful. No one in their right mind would have thought Medhurst would have become an All Australian when he left Freo, but he did. I'm not saying Drum would do that but I think we would be stupid not to at least look at him, as I do think he could add something to our list.

ohh god.. you're a club thats rebuilding and he can't get a game at our club thats going through the same process. You're right, if you want him you'll get him for nothing come end of year, i reakon he will be dropped anyway. He played round 1, but only because hayden was injured. I can't see how you would make room for him, let alone want to....:o

KPP are not where you guys struggle! two of your best Ball users are wellover there best in Green and Bruce, Footskills and speed SHOULD be you main target at this years draft, Plenty of KPP's, Inside Mids (Moloney, McLean, Jones, *Scully*) and a fair bunch of Pocket and Flank specialists in Maric, Pettard, Jetta, Davey, Wonamirri, McNamara, Cheney, Grimes, Bennell, but no Genuine Wingmen or a seccond Sylvia (someone that plays in the square with explosive pace and ability to hit targets via foot.

Drum is a pretty poor kick, but a great sense of rhythm & can keep a beat however :p

But we don't need him, he's a defender & our defense is the highlight of our team right now.

There was promise there when he bagged 4-5 in a game but obviously he hasn't kicked on since that was like 3 years ago.

But where did it go wrong? From a Freo perspective?

Being a top ten pick means jack.

Yeah i believe he kicked 4 in a game in 2007... correct me if i'm wrong.. he may be usefull to a club somewhere, but i can't see how. We're suffering from not having key forwards and still refuse to play him. From what i understand he's had good games here and there in the WAFL, but when he's bad he's been real bad!

Good points there Mr Hendrix, well said ;)

Yeah, if there's anything we desperately need in our squad, it's MORE weak forwards... we may as well try to bring back Luke Williams while we're at it guys- this is a GREAT idea :p

got no idea mate. It's quite puzzling IMO. Drum is not the most gifted player ever but at the time he was considered one of he safest selections. When he came to the club people where talking about him as future captaincy material.

Not sure if he will bite us on the bum though. Guys like Medhurst and Clement were tearing it up at WAFL level. Drum is barely holding onto his place at Perth

Can't be any worse than Scott Chisholm.

How he led our Brownlow count in 1999 is a mystery up there with the Bermuda Triangle.

Ordinary player, had some good moments spinkled in ...but f&*k he was lightning quick, i think he ran a 10.79sec 100m on the grass at TD.

Only good thing he ever did was chase a guy down in the goalsquare during that game where we beat Hawthorn by a point in 1999. And promptly got done for a farcical in the back.

Funny that you say that about the masks. I got the same searching for a photo of Phil Read.

Exciting game that Hawks clash.. i had forgotten about that tackle still dont understand it...I still remember Garry Lyon trying to point out Salmon had blood on him when it was just paint..
