Having torn an ACL in his knee against the Bombers, Alvey will miss the rest of the season... He was almost traded by the Bulldogs last season and from all accounts he is on a one year contract. If he was delisted by the Bulldogs at the end of the year, would it worth drafting him with a late pick?

In case you were wondering who I am talking about, Alvey is a small, quick, skillful midfielder and is only 22.

Your thoughts?

Pre-season draft pick me thinks.

Some one coming back from a knee is a prospect where you would like to see them train for a week or two and then make a decision.

But another midfielder would n't go astray.

I'm not a huge fan of Alvey. I'd prefer someone a bit taller midfielder as well as we have Hasleby, Bell, Cook and Schammer who are all pretty small. Especially after doing his knee now, I wouldn't bother picking him up.

Saw the South vs Swans game on TV yesterday, first time I have seen Happy Gilmore and he looks very very impressive.

I didn't realise he was so tall.

Will probably be promoted off the rookie list.

& he is so damn quick with a raking left foot kick !!

Makes me wonder as to why he wasnt good enough for that last years "weak" draft.

Mark Alvey had a press conference this week and publicly told the media that he had juist had a meeting with Western bulldogs big gus, and was told that he is a required and that they will support him and sing him up for 2004. So i dont think he will go, even though he was nearly off-lifted to essendon last year. No one will be as willing to pick him up now, and also it seems the dogs are going to give him some security and offer to renew his contract.

FH - I think the club knows he needs another year in the WAFL to fill out a bit and gain some confidence.

But I agree, he couldnt be too far away from a spot. He has good skills and would be a great halfback/wingman in a linking type role ala Matty Carr. Just needs to bulk up a bit.

Also it is cheaper to keep him on a rookie list and being local, did not need to be relocated.
