I was reading an article on the herald sun site about judd did not make the decision about trading fevola.

The article happens to mention Mark Austin as an option for the blues up forward.
Should we develop him as a forward or is he a natural backman? This means Waite can stay at CHB and our spine looks very good. What do you guys think?

Note: Article also mentions Russell Robertson as an option.

I don't know, third tall backman for mine. Not quick enough on the lead or imposing enough for the forward line.

With Jamison, Bower and Thornton all playing in defence, Austin might find it a little difficult to break into that back half, particularly if the back six can remain reasonably settled. When he has gone forward, he has shown enough to suggest that he could be quite handy up there.

I'd try him there through the Summer and in the trial & preseason games.

Yet you want us to consider Temel?

LOL.

Mooney wasn't an imposing player at North, but developed into one at Geelong as he filled out.

Austin scored a goal against the Pies and blocked for Judd twice because he is no statue like Hartlett.

A shepherd he laid against Collingwood on the move killed Leon Davis.

Mobility is the last thing Austin needs to improve after he played on McQualter and ran off Dawes easily. Played well on Hawkins too in the pre-season and ran off him to use the ball well.

Austin is a good prospect, but he needs to improve his one on one work and intensity.

Fremantle and North went to Austin's man and scored easy goals.

Should develop because he's just 20 and still filling out.

Forward would be my go with Waite returning and Bower developing nicely.

I knew Austin would convert that shot against Collingwood after he played forward in the VFL in 2007 and kicked goals.

Picking three talls who can swing back and forward would give us more options than most sides have.

You just never know, he might really surprise us and be a very handy forward for us in 2010.

Not gonna replace Fev obviously, but if he could at least kick a couple and maybe a bag here and there, it would be great.

Nevertheless I see him as an important part of our future, whether it be up forward or down back.
