Any track watchers have comments on his progress? I've read everything from worst recruit ever (really) to some nice work in the intra-practice game today. Cheers.
Not WH style at all, he would have drafted him because he thought he was the best player available at #35.....IIRC we rated him in or just outside our top 20.![]()

Mark Waugh "lacked intensity" yet his brother was one of most intense sportmen of all time........both greats.Jesus, what does it take for these young blokes to realize this is the big time? All the hard work, the training and gym, the draft and then finally getting to a club at the highest level. To hear they are lacking "intensity" after all the sacrifice and effort makes me want to throw the cat at the telly.

Hird on the exterior lacked intensity.
I hope this is a caase of looks being deceiving, and, to some degree, just being a young guy who hasn't quite switched 100% into the midset of an elite footballer.
Sometimes I think we expect too much of these kids.........and they are just kids still.
Having said that it's a dog-eat-dog game and he needs to start showing some footy ability this year and put himself on the fringe of the best 22.
Looked a very good player from what i saw at the Ants last year.
I don't think for one minute that Austin is the quality of these guys, and on that fron my post might have been a little misleading.True enough although Hird and Waugh were both silk. Do you think JH was quite as laconic in his first couple of seasons though?
Andy McKay from Glenelg? Happy to be corrected. MA's kicking action is somewhat more co-ordinated than Curlies.

Glad I saw this post. He's got a laconic style, but anyone who saw the job he did on Gumby in the Ants vs Bendigo game would be positive about his future.
You were right and I was wrong. He has the biggest thighs at the club along with Shields but still needs to develop his upper body strength
How many games from Austin would make you happy or unhappy with his development?
I'd be ecstatic if Oz played 10 games and lapped Bower for a spot in our best 22, but I would feel a tad disappointed if he only played five games at the most in 2008. Austin is a year younger than Livingston was in 2002, but even Luke didn't show as much as Austin has in the VFL, yet Livo managed to play 17 games in his second season. Austin playing five to 10 games would be a great stepping stone to securing a spot at CHB and playing 15 to 20 games in 2009.
Or do you think the club will ease him into senior footy and take a softly, softly approach with Austin?
I wouldn't want to see another example of a coach throwing a player like Livingston into the deep end before his mind, game and body were ready for such a task.
