Mark Graham was briefly interviewed on SEN about 6:30pm.

Said the usual stuff about fitting in to the new environment, etc.

Two interesting points:

  • At Richmond weights room emphasis is on upper body. At Hawthorn it was on legs.
  • At training and intra games has been playing as a half forward/wing! Believes thats where he will pay.

The second point really surprised me. I thought he was recruited as a back-up defender?

1. I remember reading comments made by Wallace that our team had the skinniest legs around, then again I think we needed work all over.

2. Down back is where we need the help with a key defenders coming off poor years, he is there to be a solid body who can provide a good contest every time, and also to mentor the likes of Moore.

i specifically remember plough saying he had watched every game of the last couple of years to identify the recycled players he wanted, and that he had a specific role in mind for graham in particular, if that is indeed half forward/wing then i am looking forward to seeing how that pans out, it would give us the flexibilty that if someone down back is being given a toweling we can switch graham back there.

Personally I don't see much value in playing Graham as half-forward, but I can see some benefits as playing him on the wing. He isn't real quick but he is mobile for his size so movement shouldn't be an issue, he would also give us a mis-match against a lot of other wingman with his extra height he would likely have over most opponents.

inconclusive really, we came last and they came second last...which methods best???????????

I think Graham could be handy for us...HBF or 2nd tall defender...has proven to be no Bum in the past and for the peanuts we're paying him , just might be of some value

I'd hate to think we'd use Graham as anything but a backman this year. We know he can play there and surely thats what we recruited for. Surely, we'd be looking to blood the likes of Deledio, Tambling, Gilmour, Roach, Raines and Meyer on the wing and HFF this year?
