Was on sen today, about the possible move to freo. But I only heard the end of the interview. In closing ,Mark Doran said that Mark Harvey was interested but it was pending a meeting with sheeds & co tommorow. Did anyone hear what Mark actually said? what are your thoughts on him leaving?

I agree DaSawx, although the timing could be a bit better? Mark Harvey need to further develop himself outside of essendon, he will IMO make a great coach but you need to see the game from different eyes ala Gary O'Donell at Brisbane, Mark Williams, Bomber Thompson.

It could mean a few different tactics might evolve at essendon too with Robert Shaw also gone.

He's given great service but i think it's probably time he moved on, both for himself and the club.

I'd love to get Hardwick from the Hawks but that aint gonna happen.

What is our assistant coach break down now as far as roles go ? like forward/midfield/back and opposition scouting etc ?

IIRC Harvey was no longer the coach of the defense and was working with the midfield ?

We wont stand in his was, curious to see who we'd replace him with, any ideas?

a carbon rod with a speech bubble attached saying "yes kevin, good idea".

in all seriousness he's been a great servant to the essendon footy club for a long time and good luck to him if he goes to freo.

I'd say sheedy will replace him with another former bomber, Bewick maybe?

Whats the general opinion of him ? Has he got any coaching talent ?

Here in Perth you dont really see much of him except on Fox Footy and thats probably not a real fair comparisen.

A lot of people will write him off based on his performances in the media, where he really isn't very good. Infact he's ordinary.

But the fact is you don't stay at Essendon for over 20 years if you're no good.

I would like to see him stay on and take over from sheeds when he retires. Although i still would not mind O'donnell, any guy his age that can come 2nd in a time trial with people almost half is age is a champ.

I think we would benefit from getting a non-Essendon person in. One of the better coaches I have heard and watched take training was Michael McGuane. That appointment would carry a bit of risk with his well earnt off field reputation but he has a first class footy brain and he would surely understand that he cant afford to screw up as he is unlikely to get another chance. Garry Hocking might be a good role model for our midfielders as well as being a genuinely tough footballer but he had limited success at the Western Jets and was not an inspiring coach to listen to.

Didnt he say at the begining of last year he wasnt going anywhere unless he got the head job.

Seriously getting rid of Harvey is the best thing essendon could possibly do. He is nothing but a sheedy yes man. If u see him on White Line Fever u no he is nothing but a piece of wood who keeps the job b/c he has his head buried so far down sheedy's a*******. He won't go 2 freo or any other club b/c away from sheedy people will finally realise wat a doing nothing assistant coach this man is. If he ever gets the head job somewhere it will be the death of that club. If any1 who has seen his performances on White Line Fever will no how useless this man's footy brain actually is

This is Fremantle we're talking about. Have they ever done anything smart?

umm yeah because richmond people know what it takes to be a head coach, how many coaches have you had say in the past 13 years?

I suppose it would be good for club and individually if harvey were to come out on national T.V and say he disagreed with what sheedy was doing, that would make a terrific assistant and a terrific person who i could follow and respect in the future.

honestly there arent too many coaches that are better then sheedy so why would you want to go afar to learn from sub standard coaches, i only rate leigh matthews, pagan and maybe malthouse as better coaches or equivalent.

sheedy has given harvey a tremednous apprenticeship as defensive then forward coaching skills, he was defensive coach of one of the best defensive units ever in 2000. He only needs to learn how to build a team that will have a crack at premiership glory to make him an ideal coach.

Of all team to make an analysis on coaching its richmond people that make me sick, for all we know wallace will be looking for new job next year if richmond dont make the finals, because thats the history of your club.

Bomber Thmpson turned your club down because he knew that he sould nt have survived and been acknowledged as a coach that could build a side that performed consistently in finals, at richmond he would have been swallowed chewed and spat out as mediocrity, give me a break.

I gotta ask, is anyone really dissapointed with this?
Mark has been a fantastic bloke for the club and where I felt angry over previous players or coaches leaving, with Mark I have absoloutely no problem.

He's given so much, and lets face it as a coach, he's stuck in a rut under Sheedy. To help himself as a head coach, he needs new experiences and new surroundings, I couldn't be happier for him and wish him good luck (naturally till we play Freo).

And, I hope to see him back at Windy Hill in 2 years as the coach, with even more ideas to make our kids better.
