I am watching Richmond Vs Melbourne game on TV and this young fella is not bad. He is ceratinly trying. Is a bit raw but I can see this fella developing into a good quality ruckman. Certainly looks better that Ben Marsh. Jamar is throwing himself at everything.

He is definitely better than Ben Marsh. But most players are!!!:)

We should have picked this lad up when he was available.

Fair point macca23. I was just really impressed by Jamar willingness to have a fair crack at both Staford and Ottens. His tapwork is a bit rusty but his physical approach has to be admired. As I said a developing ruckman who is a good prospect. You cannot judge a player by 1 game but if he continues to improve this year we really need to have a look at this kid as a long term player.

Yep. Trent Hentschel. We also needed a marking forward long-term

We took Reilly, Finnin and Schuback in that order, and passed on our last pick which we used on Trent Hentschel in the pre-seson draft.

We could have picked up Jamar and Hentschel if we delisted Laurence "where's my mummy" Angwin straight away. Insted we held onto mummy's boy in a hope of trading him but we had to delist him at the end of last year with no conpensation.

Jamar trained with us looking to get a spot on the rookie list for 2002.

He was seen as a ruckman, but with his build could be a very good KPP. However, the Crows in their wisdom decided not to include him on the rookie list as we had Clarke, Biglands, Marsh and Angwin in the ruck dept.

A week after the rookie draft, Angwin quits. If Angwin had of quit the week before, we could have picked up Jamar. AFC should have got him regardless.

Late last year Jamar was elevated to the senior list at Melbourne, so trying to get him back was a bit harder.

For whatever reason we seem to miss some of the quality SA bred big blokes - and it costs us. Recruiting big, strong, talented KPP has always been a problem for the AFC.

Not quite Jerome. AFC would have selected Jamar had he been available with our 1st pick in the rookie draft but he was snatched up by Melbourne at pick 5 which was way before our first pick.

I might be wrong but I think mummy's boy quit in a week leading to the draft and Crows opted to leave him on the list just in case he decided to come back and maybe getting something in return for trading him. Had we delisted Angwin as soon as he quit we would have been able to select both Jamar and Hentschel in the pre-season draft.

Bloody Angwin!! I normally don't wish anybody bad luck, but I'm prepared to make an exception in his case. Even when the ****er quit us and blew our earliest ever draft selection he couldn't do it with any semblance of character.

No you're not wrong Stiffy - it's all starting to come back now. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether he quit after the draft or before the draft. Didn't he quit after it was too late to delist him which would have then enabled them to select both Jamar and Hentschel?

As far as I know I think there is no dead line for delisting players. I think u can delist someone at any stage of the year. Its coming back to me now. I remember Reidy on TV saying that we will keep Angwin on the list just in case and that our drafting strategies for the upcoming pre-season and Rookie drafts will remain the same. So I am 99.9% certain that Angwin quit before the draft and I remember thinking at the time it was very strange that we didn't select Jamar since Angwin left and we only had 3 ruckman on the list. But someone then told me that Fitzy was also able to play as a pinch hitting ruckman if injuries struck.

Now I am 100% certain that Angwin quit before the draft:D

I'll try to locate some newspaper articles regarding this.

I too was pleasantly surprised by Jamar last night. We were all waiting for Whitey to relieve him, but Jamar took all of the centre bounces apart from the last one in the last 30 seconds. He did a good job his skills have improved (needed to!) and he takes a strong mark. His mobility concerns me a bit but he's still improving all areas of his game.

I think the Crows chose well by not picking up Jamar, he has had some ankle problems and used to be fairly soft when it came to playing through a bit of pain

His progression has been great to see. Started last year in the Sandy seconds, before moving into the firsts, by seasons end he was dominating in the ruck and up forward, and now he's having a hit out for the Dees. His kicking was a worry at first, but this has improved out of sight throughout the year. Handy to have him as the clubs 3rd ruckman, and by the end of the year I expect him to be pushing for the 2nd ruck role.

And you won't be getting him back cheap either!

We will have McLeod thanks... ;)

All the more reason why we should trade for him at the end of the year. This tells me that he is fair dinkum about making it at AFL level. He has a very good leap and has a body shape similar to Primus'

You're probably right there Stiffy. We must develop a young back-up ruckman or trade for an established one because our 3rd ruckmen, Ben Marsh is going to be of very little value when called upon (god forbid!!!!)

The one that really makes me very angry is how we let Brogan slip through our fingers. He did the pre-season with us at the end of 2000 I think it was and really wanted to play with the Crows. He had played very little footy having a basketball background. I loved his confidence at the time - I remember him saying that whoever drafted him would not be sorry as he believed with a bit more footy he would make his mark at AFL level as a ruckman.

I was hoping that we would take the punt and draft him because he was showing something already with South. But no we wasted draft picks on the tosser Angwin, the nothing sized Handby, the slow developer Smith, and the fleabite Skipworth. John**** in the draft and Ladhams in the pre-season were good pick-ups but we wasted another pre-season draft pick on Adam Richardson - ugh!!

To cut a long story short, Port snaffled him from under our noses in the rookie draft and the rest is history. The ruckman of the future was there for the taking and we let it slip. :(

We won't trade him away. If he comes continues to improve this season, there is no chance in hell you guys are getting him. It's as simple as that.

I know for a fact that we tried to trade for him at the end of last year but then French decided to go to Carlton and St. Kilda really went hard for Brooks. At the end of the day Port saw what Brogan could do and they wouldn't have dream of in their wildest dreams what they got for Brooks. So at the end of the day we came up shot and I was really disappointed with that as I have great wraps for Brogan and he has proved it on saturday night that he has what it takes to be one of the best ruckman in the AFL. Imagine him a couple of years down the track with more muscle on and hence greater strenght. SCARY:eek:

We are going to have a fair crack at him at the end of this year, but whether we get him or not remains to be seen. He comes out of contract at the end of this year and since we are in a need of young ruckman preferably from SA we will look at him. If he decides to leave there is not much you guys can do about that is there??????:)

He's happy where he is, playing for the oldest club in the world. There is no reason for him to go to Adelaide, and if we were to trade him, we would need something significant in return.
