Yes, impressive work from Spikelet. Refreshingly frank, talked about things you don't normally hear from footballers, and/or don't normally think about. If only Zaka and Melksham were as adept media performers (although that might come in time).

Nice change from having to listen to Stevie J., who possesses the most dreary monotone ever. It's basically this:

always well spoken, bleeds essendon but needs to show that on field at times.

"Bleeds Essendon" - I'm sorry, but I laugh at that comment time and time again.

Based on what? His emotive language in the public, such as the B&F or on the ground at the end of 2008? Or the career he's made out of playing selfish, me-first football?

See Ant's posts to see what I'm talking about.

Somebody like Dustin Fletcher, who will concede 30 touches from his opponent if it means he's helping prevent 10 goals through teammates' opponents, is a team player.

It's all well and good to speak of hurt after a loss, but actions speak louder than words.

thats a different argument isn't it? lets compare Mark Mcveigh to Adam Mcphee??? different again???

I think you've taken a sample of his weaknesses and blanketed his career, you know he use to be a great tagger, his done the job on Milne and others e.g bartel last week several times and during his prime he got injured. He has made some mistakes along the way but his passion for the club shouldn't be questioned, he has had several offers to leave and stayed through one of our clubs leaner times unlike some.

Could still be a useful back pocket player if he wishes to continue his career.

Whomb doesn't appreciate selfish players - read his comments re Brent Harvey.

Though one could argue the selfishness of Harvey and McVeigh are polar opposites.

Yet our whipping boys are continually "picked" on for their weaknesses, for their mistakes, but rarely given credit for doing the "right" thing??? This happens every week, to the same players, by the same posters, it gets tiresome.

Just saying, not having a go at you :)

The difference is one's an offensive star of his side, the other a battler.

You have changed your tune on harvey - Thought you would come around !;)

You are being disrespectful to a very proud, loyal Essendon person.

Sure he has made mistakes and played some bad games but overall he has been a great servant of this football club and he deserves better than that.

When Quarter's pointed out he was contracted for next year and how's the body holding up Spike was very quick to point out he is feeling good and is playing next year.

Personally I would have liked him to have said that he will see how this year play's out and see how his form is towards the end of the year is and then have a talk to the coaches and play it from there.

Not a big issue though but things can change quickly in football and Spike has really struggled in some games this year.

Agree to disagree.

While he's a great clubman and hates to lose, his best footy is behind him and we've held onto him two seasons too long.

For the sake of moving the list forward, I'd be disappointed to see him getting a regular game in the seniors next season based on reputation alone.

We have better now and he's taking the spot of a kid and has been since late 2009.
