Did he wear 45 or 47 in the reserves ? Its pretty foggy going back there but I remember his skills shining underneath the windsock.

I can't imagine why they would wear a different number in the reserves than they did in the seniors.

I remember Ricky being emergency nearly every week in 1992 and I'm almost certain he had 47 back then.

played with him this yr at Airport West in EDFL B Grade. He played about 7 games before heading of to Europe for the world cup, hurt his groin and unfortantly couldn't play finals. is a 50/50 chance to play next season said he will only play with us ( close mate the reason why he plays with us) he got offered BIG cash bush didn't go and is on peanuts with us ( along with M Martin former Bris and Wb player whos on nothing). Mercs is top bloke just seems like he wants to live his life as a person more than a "footy palyer" got involved a bit loves a bit of a laugh and is a geniune bloke. so suprised to see him play i thought he would of sat in the goal square take a few marks and thats it, but he through his body into the contests stood up for the young blokes and did the hard stuff.
i remeber he took a mark that was a absoulute specky stood on the ruckmans shoulder in the goal square and stayed up there for ages. also did a wayne harms effort in a tight game for us in the last to give us a roll on.
im only 19 and a bombers fan, i wore his number on my back as a kid this is the closest ill get to AFL and playing with him is awesome:thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Thanks for that post Cutter. Was wondering what Mercs was up to. Playing with the champ must be a real buzz. Interesting u said he got offers to go bush but stayed home. He is such a humble bloke, never big noted himself.

Remember he gave an interview in 96 or 97 I think in Inside Football-headline was "Mercuri Rising" or something,he played bad that week after that and said he will never talk to the press again cause its bad luck.

He is a bigger mystery than Leon Baker. We will never see those two on the Footy Show thats for sure;)

By the way,my cousin used to play for AP West FC in the 80's.Is Bomber's photo still up in the clubrooms? Have they changed it? Cause it was never the best shot of Bomber:D

Awesome buzz mate i remember one game he was bout 60 out i ran for the hands he wasnt to sure so i kept pushing into the 50 deep in the pocket, he didn't seem to keen but he gave it off. i slotted it from a set shot from 45 - 50meters i turned and he came running in with a big smile to celebrate grabbing me that was a fair thrill!:p

Remember Round 22 in 1996 against Footscray. Will never forget im kicking the winning goal late in the 4th quarter. The roar was amazing!! He kicked 4 from memory. Hirdy had a day out as well. As i recall it was the game that won Hirdy the Brownlow and lost Grant the Brownlow.

Yes that was the one. Round 22 1996 against Footscray. Ther MCG rocked!!

It was around that time that Mark Mercuri was dubbed "The Money Man", the guy you'd bet your house on to get you a winning goal. I remember what made Mercuri great. Not the Mercuri of his last 2 years

hahaha..yes what a game. I was living in Qld then and watchin on tv. Mercs looked around and thought "beauty! nobody on the mark" and as quick as a flash runs 5mtrs and cool as a cucumber, 50 out, straight thru. A big primal scream of YESSSSSSSSSS came from me. Mercuri moments:thumbsu:

Who can forget that game against the Blues when in the final minute, Mercs produced a long bomb for goal, only to see it marked by SOS.

Merc's reaction was priceless when it was marked on the goal line. From memory, he looked at Sess in disbelief with his hands on his head in despair, before Scotty made things right.

In turn, SOS kicked an absolute scrubber that was scooped up by Lucas for an easy goal which won us the game. I believe it was around 97-98?

The place rocked to its very foundations and I recall jumping so high, that I almost split my knackers when I lost my footing between the plastic seats..it was that insane!

Ahhh..yes, Scotty's scoop and swoop,on the boot and back over Silvangi's head in a flash:thumbsu:
