I watch a lot of cricket on Channel 9. Most of the voices doing the game are good, but Mark Taylor, I just can't stand. Always raves on about how he scored a century at this ground and that ground. Prime example is the 2nd ODI of this series at Bellerive Oval. Taylor: I finished my career here and scored a big hundred. A great moment for myself to finish my career off at this ground." He says something along these lines 1-2 times a game. I mean Brayshaw is a better commentator!

This drives me nuts! This is why I like commentators who haven't played at INternational level before, so they can't rave on about all they have done. Instead of raving on between balls, they should discuss the ball or something.

There was nothing worse last night than Brayshaw and Healy crapping on about the music between overs. The comm box has been a utter disgrace this summer. Its has become more like a bunch of blokes talking over beers in a bar.

There's definitely been worse than Taylor this season. Healy has made one or two pertinent points all season, but he ruins it by harping on about it incessently. The rest of the time he's just a flog. He's gotten a lot worse over the last few years - he wasn't this bad when he started.

Slater's been bad when he's trying to be 'hip', especially when he's on with Heals. I've enjoyed Brayshaw in the one dayers, but maybe that's because I like him as a football commentator.

Why don't some of the twats on here listen to the ABC then. Every sport all you hear is complaints about the commentators. They're ALL bad? Thinks it's more about the knockers enjoying knocking. Makes them feel important.

Healy is the worst by far. The 'Sicilian Sausage Sandwich' when Sean Connery came up in the conversation was f**king awful. Slats dancing at the T20 was cringeworthy. Taylor is good when not speaking about his own career as OP pointed out. If Kerry Packer was still in charge these clowns wouldn't be anywhere near the box. :thumbsd:

The ABC team is very good. There is a gulf that separates ABC and Channel 9. Disagree about 'knockers enjoying knocking'. When watching sport in general you want commentators to do a run-down of what is happening out on the field, not boring anecdotes of yesteryear or flogs hamming it up.

The telecast is on a delay which, along only a few seconds, makes it annoying. Also, those of us in WA get some of the one-dayers on three hour delay.

I listened to that exact conversation the OP described and I'm pretty sure Michael Slater brought it up. I can't recall Mark Taylor bringing up his own career very often. Certainly not to the extent of someone like Ian Chappell.

nothing worse than Ian Healy singing the songs they play between innings and raving on about it. Brayshaw and Nicholson didnt know what to say. Heally was crapping on about how crowds should come to cricket to hear great music. Nicholson just shot him down and said they should come to watch the game of cricket and the fact all 3 have been close contests.

Healy also complaining about the 12th man coming on during umprie referals was annoying. He may have a point but no need to go on about it for a 5 minute rant.

Words cannot express how bad the commentary has been for the T20/ODIs

Healy and Slater are the worst commentators going around for any sport. Their 'antics' such as singing, joking are so cringeworthy it's unbearable. I hope they both get their vocal cords cut out

Brayshaw does not work as a cricket commentator. His style is fine for footy, but cricket is much more cerebral, he doesn't suit it

Tony Greig who I normally don't mind has been insufferable - maybe it's just him being paired with Healy/Slater, but he has been horrible and has really grated on me

Please for the love of God, bring Bill Lawry back :(

i said this on another thread but the commentary teams from the supersport channel in SA and the sky team in the UK just leave these blokes behind.

Gower, bumble, atherton, botham, holding and even nasser hussain is good.

supersport have richards, wessels, pollock, pommy but i think its the sth african accents that get them over the line.

it might be the fact that its pay TV stuff and they only have to please cricket fans not the general public but in saying that the fox team of BJ, jnr and greg blewett isnt that much better for the big bash or ryobi cup stuff, aussie commentators beside richie and bill are just self absorbed and think they must ham it up to be entertaining.

ian healy makes me reach for the mute button, i mean honestly, this guy is more bias towards the australian side than the drunk yobo in bay 13

Yeah he's terrible.

The guy has a serious love affair with Brad Haddin (as does Michael Slater). You'd think Haddin was better than Gilly with how much they crap on about him.

Because of the delay between the vision and the audio.

Tubbs isn't too bad. Healey can be bloody annoying with his Aussie flag waving, but sometimes he is funny or insightful. I don't mind Slats. But would much rather Kerry O'Keefe and Jim Maxwell. Pitty they don't do the commercial TV commentary.

As others have pointed out, the delay makes it difficult to listen to ABC and watch Channel 9 at the same time. However, I'll frequently choose to listen to ABC and not even BOTHER with trying to watch the TV. I'll keep the TV on mute, while I sit and listen to the ABC in another room. If a wicket falls, or there is a major milestone... I'll mute the radio and head for the television room.

I wonder if Channel 9 actually does any work with the commentators. Healy bleating on about the music last night was so painful I wanted to perforate my own ear drums. I'm surprised a producer doesn't tap him on the shoulder and say "STFU!" Some of them really need some ongoing coaching to help with their performances.

Commentating, like any skill, requires regular practice and fine tuning. I just don't think they treat their jobs seriously enough.
