In 2010, Liam Jurrah won the AFL Mark of the Year. In 2011, he's not flying for his marks any more, instead playing as a scavenger forward. As Leigh Matthews alluded in his call, imagine if Jurrah was still at Collingwood playing in a forward line structured around two big strong players like Cloke and Dawes. He'd be unstoppable.
Jack Watts is improving each week. The first thing I would say about Watts is that I haven't seen him intimidated. He might be the golden-haired boy from Brighton Grammar but he's not afraid. Nor is he slow. He's 196 centimetres but he can gather the ball at his ankles, he is a fine mark over head. He's becoming Melbourne's Brendon Goddard.
Melbourne has characters, too, like mid-field duo Sergeant-Major Brent Moloney and ''Chunky'' Jones. Chunky is a modern footballer in that he has a nude head, a much-inked arm and a following on Twitter. He is old-fashioned in that he takes the blows and keeps going. Similarly, when surrounded by foes, the Sergeant-Major inflates his chest and charges. Also tough in the clinches is Jordie McKenzie. Such is his appetite for the tackle, you would be reluctant to shake hands with him in the street for fear of being wrestled to the ground. Jordy's a rich man's Mitch Robinson.
