If you could only pick 1 and no one else who would you pick out of Martin & Fyfe

both have their positives and negatives - cost , injuries , behaviour etc. keen to get an overall picture of who we would prefer to have.

My vote goes to Martin

If we got fyfe i would be ecstatic.
But if i had the choice id pick Martin.
Fyfe is a better player, but his body is a worry when we are forking out millions of dollars.
I for 1 like Martins attitude.

Whoever came cheaper.

This.

If one of them is available FA and the other requires a trade, the choice is made for us IMO.

Happy to give our 2017 and 2018 firsts for either of them if it comes down to it though.

It's hard - we need a Martin kind of player who can bullock thru our midfield and go fwd and kick goals more than a Fyfe type of pplayer which we have in Acres and maybe Steele? Happy to be told otherwise.

But I think its whomever says yes first and commit to the club. As we saw with Shiel - lots of last minute changes.

I feel that Martin coming is more plausible than Fyfe mainly based on the price to obtain Martin and list profiles of tigers and Freo. Tigers could be looking at a rebuild in the near future and Dusty will be in his late 20's, early 30's when tigers would be in a position to contend again, on the assumption that tigers can rebuild their list over 3-4 years. Similar to our list profile prior to our own rebuild, there is a bit of a gulf between the top end talent and rest of the list. Their top end is also in their late 20's.

When you compare the tigers' list to Freo, over the last couple of years, Freo have focused on bringing through more youth and on paper have a number good and promising players in an ideal age bracket for Fyfe to stay the course and potentially challenge while he is still in his prime years (Bennell, McCarthy, Hill, Logue, Weller, Neale, Blakely).

Personally, one area I feel that the saints need to address is recruiting a top end midfielder who has the ability to burst through the packs and hit the scoreboard. So in that regard, I would like us to target Martin. Would be a joy to watch the Steven and Dusty double act.

One negative is that I feel any scrutiny on Dusty will be intensified if he were to join the saints in particular. There will be the constant heart in mouth that he doesn't act up and undo a lot of the goodwill the club have worked hard to build over the last couple of years. On the other hand, Fyfe is a bit of a media darling and feel the club will be able to maximise the benefits in terms of continuing to build our brand and make us more appealing to sponsors and general supporters.

I have this feeling that Dusty would lose it early on and get rubbed out for four to six weeks doing something stupid. Given our record of Lovett , and Carlisle sniffing drugs thing . We are trying to clean up our club , no more setting dwarfs on fire or playing up on planes or at hotels . No more sleeping with young girls etc . For some reason Dusty seems more likely to be a bigger risk.

Its funny Freo and Richmond might finish around the same on the ladder. Probably richmond more of a chance to finish down the bottom but say they both finish around 10-13.
Why is it that Freo would match and richmond won't. I see no reason why they wouldnt demand 2 1st rounders just the same as freo.
Considering this. Do you guys who said they prefer Dusty still do?
IMO its not even a valid question. You dont choose if you want Fyfe. He chooses where he wants to go from all the offers in front of him.
But for shits and giggles. I pick Fyfe.
Not only over Martin. But over every other player in the comp.

I'd give up our 3 x 1st rounders for fyfe and freos 1st rounder this year.

Basically costing 2 x 1st rounders with a 1st round up grade to grab another elite kid.

Slobbo just said Martin will stay and that his manager is just playing funny buggers - FWIW

Top end players dont come on the market very often so if you manage to nab one it is normally done well before like some of the rumors we've heard and some stuff some of the ITKs have posted.

Geez Fyfe, Acres, Steele and Ross is a very tall midfield quartet with Billings nearly there supported by Steven, Gresham and the rest of the mosquito fleet a la Sinclair, Meatball, Lonie, Stevens, Montagna etc

Signing Acres a new contract should be our main priority. We dont want him uncontracted at the end of this year.
No doubt Freo have made contact.
Weve got a few in this boat.
We have a shitload of cap. Doubt we will lose an Acres type.

As for the question, Martin has missed 3 games in 7 years. Fyfe is a bit injury prone.
Martin is more resilient, Fyfe is probably a better player.

Dont know. Gut feeling - Fyfe

Caps not the problem. As with all good young players coming out of contract playing interstate. They get big come home offers for nominations.
Imagine he has a really good year. Freo offer 700k midway not to resign.
Im not saying thats gona happen but theyll be negotiating for sure. Probably already. Knowing that were into Fyfe.

Maybe they might try this in a trade for Fyfe.
Doubt they will get him though
