When JH (master) retires and (commander) Lloyd himself eventually steps down in about 3-4 years, who is going to take over?

This season did have some real standout leaders of the future playing. Some are closer than others, some have a fair way to go. Hille is the obvious choice, but is he certain to be the next EFC captain?

i think by that time, one of our younger brigade may be ready to take on the leadership, im hoping either stanton or monfries take it after lloyd

It will be interesting to see the different choices posted.
Has to be one of the young under 25 year olds you would think.

If Hille keeps on playing well for the next few years he will right up there.

Andrew Lovett? Everyone had doubts when Ponting was made Captain.
Maybe Lovett will surprise us all and become a mature confident leader in years to come.

Agree on Monfries. He's as cocky as a young Ben Cousins:thumbsu:

Im tipping Hille or Monfries to take the helm. Without being a star, Hille did reasonably well in that role...a couple of more seasons under his belt and he'll be commanding attention from the troops. Monfries will be a candidate for his courage and reckless abandon.

Jobe? Will he be a leader like the old man? Too early to tell really.

Great topic thread by the way! :thumbsu:

to early to tell i would think, he has had one good season in his carrer and hasnt shown alot of leadership. i would prefer it be monfries, then we would have one of the most courages captain around (sort of like hird).

Yes,I think Angus would be a popular choice by many...even though he's so young.

If we're going to give it to someone in their early to mid 20's he'd want to be a gun, Monfries would be the best bet as I don't see Stanron as a captain, I could see Jobe as a potential one down the track. I would have no problem giving it to Hille. Lloyd could even have 4-5-6 years left, who knows.

What about McPhee? A few seasons back he was often mentioned as being a futre captain but this has lost momentum over the last 2 seasons. Do any of you guys still see McPhee as a potential captain.

yeah i reckon mcphee could be a good option. will depend on his next coupla seasons but if he can regain some of his past momentum he could be a good option. why do you think he wouldnt accept it? cheers.

Couldnt see it happening. He doesnt strike me as a leader. Best he concentrates on re-establishing his exciting early form with us.

Mark Mcvaigh? Johns maybe in 5 years might be very suitable to the role, he and Monfries look like players who can do something specail to change the momentum of a game like any good leader.

I can see Jay Nash as a captain, for some reason. I have nothing to back it up with, though...

I was thinking about that myself. Lloyd could possibly play for another 5-6 years if the injury gods are kind. This would mean that the next EFC captain could be in their late 20's by the time the super star retires.

Monfries is so young, played 30 odd games(?) yet is already singled out for a skipper title. Its exciting to think what he'll end up like.

Maybe it could be someone totally unexpected.Nash or Lovett?

I don't know about anyone else but I would rather still see Hirdy as captain and Lloyd the vice. Don't know why he gave it up. I still regard him as the captain even though he isn't. Plenty of champions have missed out on being captain of their club because some other champion teammate kept the title untill retirement.

But getting back to who will take over in a few years. I didn't even think about it much when I first posted and now the only player who seems likely is Monfries. Is that good or bad?

Does that mean we have only one or two prospects for future captains?

nah i believe mcphee will be captain- his a great leader and helps the backline physiclly and mentally

Well this year he was a leader of lost confidence. If he got back that All Australian form he might well one day be Captain.
