Who exactly is on this committee? Bevo dosesnt pick the side by himself everyweek. Last year the kept making horrible decisions....eg not playing 2 talls up forward, 1 ruckman and Austin down back etc.

This year the shocking decisions are continuing. Minno and campbell left in the twos while Ayce stinks up the seniors. No 2nd tall forward and hrovat macrae grant webb minno all best 22 imo left in the 2s.

Have we fixed this problem over summer oviously not.... different coach same problems.

Dont understand why Minson, Grant and Mcrae are not in our side.

Surely even if the coach wants them to work on some aspect of their game they are still better value to the team than their replacements.

Macrae had been having a bad run with form, Grant and Hamling both should have been getting a game

As for Will, he's in some trouble and we won't see him for a month at least

Campbell hasn't been doing anything worthy of getting a call. That doesn't mean I think
Cordy is any better, but we have a major ruck issue imo

I'm really annoyed about Lin Jong selection. Last week may have been understandable, but to select him this week? His hand IS NOT BLOODY READY! One week was not going to correct this.

  • Jong is running around with one hand and shouldn't be playing
  • If we are serious about winning games we wouldn't have Goodes in the side when you've got Macrae running around in the VFL
  • Cordy is not going to get any stronger than he is, I don't know why they are persisting with him
  • Hrovat and Grant not out there when you've got Biggs and Dale...no disrespect to these kids, they will be good players I believe, but again, are we serious about winning games of footy?
They are the questions I'd like to ask.

I'm on my lonesome - but Cordy's work around the ground is clearly superior to Will's at the minute.

Disagree with selecting Jong (clearly not ready) and with Honeychurch out we need a replacement mosquito with annoying energy (hi Hrovat).
Macrae BOG last week should have come in.
Goodes was woeful in the first half, much better in the second half until his injury.

Dale has had his taste, must make way now for someone with a few pre-seasons under his belt.

Clear as day that the former regime have conned Bev into thinking Roughead is a defender when he would be far better utilised in the ruck. The stint he had in the ruck yesterday I saw him smash Spencer in the hitouts and we know that Roughy has good movement for his size, skills are solid and his marking is good. Isn't that what we want from our first ruckman???
MC have to realise soon enough that Roughead with help from a forward/ruck is the answer to our issue in the ruck and not Cordy.

Time to play Hamling with Roberts and see who will grab that second defender spot (when Moz comes back) and then we can decide by the end of the year if we need more support for Talia.

You may not be on your lonesome, but I don't agree with you.
In my opinion Cordy gives absolutely zero around the ground and less in the ruck. How can you give less than zero? By actually being an advantage to the other side by being on the ground competing against subpar opposition and being a total liability.
Mins on always competed well in the ruck, whilst not as mobile and liable to give a few silly frees away always gives a contest. Can take a mark and helps our young and smaller blokes out physically.
Massive blunder by our match committee, Cordy's papers need to be marked "never to be picked again, no matter what".
I am very annoyed at this continued selection.

What have the match committee have achieved this year

WIN - We are 4 and 4 which is about as many wins I thought we would win for the whole season DIDNT HAPPEN LAST YEAR

WIN - Ayce has had an extended run in the 1sts, so all the questions surrounding him have now been answered, ie he is crap and should really be delisted at seasons end DIDNT HAPPEN LAST YEAR

WIN - we have played a much undeveloped undersize midfield (Bont, Wallis, Honey, Hrovat, Dahl), moved more experienced players out (Boyd) and given them the gametime they need to develop - DIDNT HAPPEN LAST YEAR

WIN - Game time into future KPD Talia and Roberts who have been the only 2 keys down back when Roughy is in the ruck - DIDNT HAPPEN LAST YEAR

We have a ruck problem not because of MC, it is because Minson looks like he may be rubbed out and Campbell has struggled coming back from injury

What should we do then for the remainder of the year
- Keep developing the midfield
- Keep playing the kids under 50 games experience, Hrovat, MacRae (should be in for remainder of the year), Honey
- Play and Rotate one or two of Dale, Webb, c. Daniel, McLean, Hamilton EACH WEEK
- Piss Ayce off, stick Roughy in the ruck and bring in a bigger body Key position player to try something different, probably Redpath at this stage but when form comes up to it then Campbell

There is no need to panic

To suggest that a couple of match committee calls would
make that shit sandwich taste any better is naive.
Saying that i agree no playing injured players especially
broken bones in the hand area, Ayce Cordy had 63 pts
which is or was a breakout game for him when we won.

We are really scraping at the bottom of the barrel for players right now, our depth is appalling
we have above the league average for general forwards & general defenders and then our ruck depth, key position depth & midfield depth are all below average & the age of players/games played..I am surprised we've won a game all year to be honest but there is a lot of work for JMac come the end of the season

Lets keep in mind that this is not Bev's coaching staff. This is what he was given as we/he had no time to assemble the right coaches he wanted as he was appointed in November. I still expect there to be a couple of changes to our coaching staff by the end of the season, so that he can introduce a coaching staff more on his wave length. Still a bit of a cleanout to be had both on the playing and coaching rosters.

The Cordy experiment is surely now officially over
Both melbourne and Fremantle forced us to move Cordy out of the ruck
No doubt a lumbering strong man is not ideal around the ground
But the battering your mids receive and the 3-6 clean center clearances you lose are not sustainable when you play Cordy
Our center players are exhausted from the accumulative effort
And whilst a mature team like hawthorn maybe able to win with a weak ruck man, it was 2014 when they finally won the grand final easily and for the first time they had a genuine first ruck in mcevoy

Time for bev and mc to simply be big enough to concede they got it wrong - it is now pigheaded

You are not on your own re Cordy's work around the ground v Wil. However, this is still nowhere near the level of a competent AFL Ruckman.

Roughy is far and away our best ruckman now and as a second ruck in the future. He is competitive in ruck contests, is mobile around the ground with good skills for a ruckman. Play him there. Bring Hamling in to support Tallia and Roberts.
Agree with Macrae. Add Grant and Webb with Hamling and the team has improved immensely. Add Hrovat and or Honeychurch and the contest is back in the team.

Goodes has a mature body but is too inexperienced at the AFL level to be a regular contributor. Time for him to be moved on from the AFL, but has immense value with the VFL.

Jong simply poor selection and to follow that up again....

Agree to with Dale and Hunter needs to develop the defensive side in the ressies and Biggs needs to improve a hell of a lot more

Good point. Two in particular he was not impressed with over the preseason. I don't know whether than opinion has changed since the real stuff has started

The MC should be a collectivist decision-making process, where the actual members of the MC have 50% of the vote, and the other 50%t is divvy-ed up between members and BF posters. Of course, as most BF posters ARE members, our vote counts twice.

This seems entirely fair, and far better than last year's system where random names were drawn out of Mark Austin's hat - a hat which contained one piece of paper with each of the names on the senior list*, and 10 pieces of paper with "Mark Austin" on them.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Austin, he tried hard, but you reckon Macartney would have twigged... eventually.

MC meeting - every week:

BMac: "Austin - again! Hey Iago, are you putting his name back in again? No-one else's name seems to come out more than once!"

Monty/Iago: "Alas, poor Austin, I knew him well..."

*Meanwhile, back in the changerooms, the cleaner finds a small piece of paper jammed behind the lockers... it reads "32 Michael Talia".
