league teams on fox had the rumour that matthew drain is leaving at end of season, not happy with the due dillenge done on the lovett trade.
This would be a massive loss if true expecially if the tudor rumour turned out to be true also.

At this rate we are only going to have Ross Lyon left

You should probably have mentioned that it was Parkin spreading the rumour. He is not known for having Saint's contacts, but is known for dumping on us a lot.

Also Pickering who is a player manager stated that in his opinion that Drain was one of the best at AFL Clubs in his role.

Meanwhile, another member of Ross Lyon's football department is preparing to leave St Kilda. The club's head of list management and recruiting Matthew Drain has informed the Saints he will leave at season's end.

Drain is the third person in as many months to resign from the club, following former assistant coach Tony Elshaug's shock resignation, and Stephen Silvagni's defection to Greater Western Sydney.

Whilst Drain obviously provided some inside word on Farren Ray, our list is "interesting" outside of the main 22 is "interesting":
Simpkin
Gaertner
Miles
Johnson
Geary
Dempster
Lynch
Walsh

Throw Raph in there too (injured).

All play defence (either natural position or where they have played their best footy).

That leaves:
Jack
King (ruck)
Winmar (has been playing half back)
Armitage
Heyne
Stanley (ruck)
Pattison (ruck)
Smith
Cahill
Hutchings
McGrath (ruck)

We have no-one on the list who is causing any trouble in the VFL as a forward (or goalkicking midfielder). Cahill kicked 14 in 14 games, which was by far the highest of the St Kilda listed guys (next best was Rhys with 8 in 11 games).

So where's the list management if you overlay it with the Lovett debacle?

I'm happy for the club to go in a different direction.

Drain has resigned (left us).

Drain's greatest praise was earned in maintaining the list we have, - we have not had much in the way of draft picks to allow us to accumulate much top end youth, but we have done extremely well on trades (with the exception of Lovett and Ball).

we have done extremely well on trades

Heard Riewoldt say during the week he (previously) was desperate to re-sign and end the Gold Coast rumours as soon as possible.

BJ, Dal, Lenny, Kosi, Monty, Grammy, Blake, Baker - which of those blokes would chase the dollars when there was the "pact" (and after Roo has committed that strongly)?

I'd give the players themselves more of the credit.

The recent successful trades (aside from Ray) are Gardiner, Schneider, Dempster and King. Not sure I'd be giving these guys to Drain as Ross Lyon wanted the ruckmen and was obviously instrumental with the Sydney boys.

And remember Mini was actually delisted!

we have not had much in the way of draft picks

We've had some picks - OK, not top end "guaranteed" picks - but enough to get us a couple of pacy types (without having to resort to blowing half a million dollars on players with baggage).

2007 - Macca (#9) is a likely type but remember he was taken in front of a couple of stars of the game (Dangerfield and Rioli)

2008 - there is plenty of talent after Lynchy at #13

2009 - gave up picks #16 and #25

And why isn't Podsiadly on our list!!!

And Barlow trained with the Saints

I think some are assuming that Drain has been sacked, whereas he may well have been poached by another Club such as GWS.

I'm more inclined to believe the whisper that the GWS gig pays well but has substantially less time commitment (the latter being appealing to SOS).

SOS' move could be a very smart one if he has senior coaching aspirations.
A lot of people speculate that Sheedy's role is more of a figurehead and that he will step aside once the team is up and running.
SOS could end up with the inside edge for the job.

i read somewhere that SOS was staying in melbourn and working with GWS and it will be part time. so i am not sure that presently he wants to become head coach
