Delisted from St.Kilda, the club has been in contact with him - possible PSD selection.

The Downs - delisted after a wretched run with injuries at St.Kilda after being picked 21 (or 24 im not too sure) in the 2002 National Draft.

The Ups - is 100% better than Sam Hunt and imo Spencer also, has showed potential to be a star as either a 3rd tall forward or back at VFL level (i know its not AFL - but its a good start)

Given Scarl, Harls and Egan are settled into the 22, if one was to go down I'd put more faith in Ferg than either Hunt or Spencer to fill the void.

If we had delisted Spencer and Lonergan I'd have said maybe, but not so sure now given we only have 3 picks in the draft.

Rookie at best.
Agreed. Should of got rid of Gardiner and Spencer :(

Not sure, cant really visualise him , but being given the flick because of too many injuries doesn't sound good. P22 , one before Tom Lonergan but reallly once they are in the system it means little the pick they are taken at.
Egan (P62 2004) compared to Spencer (P42 2003) for instance

If we a looking for a guy with a couple of years on the clock , what about
Josh Thurgood. I can remember this kid playing and he showed a heap of potential but he has struggled with the Mackie sydrome. A couple of years as a Rookie would see us with a player that could be solid player for us

IMO it would be a NO to both Ferguson and Thurgood as they improve our list in no way.

Ferguson is not a KPP and is a small defender he is only listed at 187cm and 87kg these types of players are reasonably easy to find so why pick up one with injury problems and that has been unable to perform regularly with another club (so much so that he is delisted)

Thurgood is flashy at time but has no consistency and doesn't really hurt the opposition. Where would we play him and whos position would he take? I dont think he is good enough to knock out any of the flankers or wingmen we have (Of course I dont think that much of him) and would rather take a punt on a 17-18yo

Ferg is only 187 and 87 i agree, however ... he plays taller than his physique suggests - if say, Harley went down early in the season and was a long term injury-listed player, promoting Ferguson would put Spncer and Hunt under the pump to make every opportunity count.

I would also argue to me death (having seen alot of Ferguson at various levels) that Ferg is a better player than either Spencer and/or Sam Hunt (who was also delisted by Essendon for the fact he couldnt get a game there - and how exactly does promoting him to our senior list benefit our team?)

If we rookie Ferg i will be very happy with our decision to give the kid another chance in the system, he's a good player!

PS - Thurgood - is anyone serious? At least with Ferg he will come under consideration if a tall back got a long term injury (it would be out of Spencer, Hunt ,Ferg to replace whoever got injured), even if a Wojcinski or J Hunt got injured, then David Johnson and Tim Callen would be clear cut choices over Thurgood to replace them in the back half.

I would go with that as well. I think Spencer was only kept because he was under contract and they didn't want to put undue pressure on our salary cap. Hunt had a reasonable end to the season in the magoos and at least had some mobility but I think he was only promoted as a backup and wont ever be a consistent afl player. I think I would have taken the risk and not promoted him and if injury happened then used playfair, spencer, mooney or maybe a draftee (thorp if he slips through) or if long term then grima also is a big body that can play down back (if he progresses) either way by not promoting hunt we would have had the extra draft pick.

187cm is not key position, no matter how tall he apparently plays. If we get to that level we're in serious trouble.

And by the way, both Milburn and Rooke are taller than that, and also can 'play tall' in defence.

If we take him, its got to be as a flanker, not a KP.

Ted richards couldnt get a game for Ess either. Nor could Stevenson at Melbourne or Street for Geelong. All three had SENSATIONAL 2006 seasons

Who the hell is Stevenson?

I think Ferguson has talent (can kick, and is more than handy with contested marking for his size), but his body doesn't look like it's up for it. If I remember correctly, he'll be out for pretty much all of next year anyhow (ankle surgery?), so a rookie spot would essentially be wasted (when you consider his age amongst other things).

Not that he'd really bring anything we haven't already got. As others have pointed out, he's not a key defender, but a tall flanker - something we're decently stocked up in.
