Tim Paine is the better keeper, and is right up there with the batting. He looked more than fine in the ODI's he played a couple of years ago and his form in the BBL has been more than acceptable.

Wade's lapses with his keeping are usually coming from the spinners. Has missed a few catches and stumpings this summer so he'd want to improve in that regard, considering there is an Indian tour coming up where the ball will probably turn sideways*

*May or may not happen at all with Lyon and co in the side.

All you people advocating Paine replacing Wade, do yourself a favour and look up his form this year. Please. Do so and stop making yourself look like an absolute idiot.

So we pick the best keeper available for the ashes, well then why would it be simply deciding wade vs haddin?

if it's mostly on their keeping then you wouldn't pick either man.

I agree in principle. The first part of my post where I say "pick whoever is the best" isn't limited to Wade or Haddin.

bad thread is bad imo.

how is paine knocking the door down?
he hasn't played any first class cricket in about a month

Gee, I wonder why...

He's batting form is looking better and better as the T20 progresses (4th highest scorer in that comp).

T20. Always a good way to base selection for test cricket...

Well, considering the schedule, he can hardly be playing anything else (and yes, that's a pretty ****ed schedule - how are the selectors meant to pick Test replacements when there isn't any long form cricket being played). His keeping has been fine (pretty sure it being T20 doesn't change that).

He can't be playing anything else and that isn't his fault but that doesn't mean T20 cricket is now a way to pick players for five day cricket. There are still 10 games of shield cricket a season for players to make there case. He did not make any case at all in the first half of the season so he does not get a look in at test level right now. Once he starts making some runs in the Shield, then he can be considered.

His keeping has been ordinary this year. He fumbled plenty of times just in the Hurricanes last game.

Paine is a way better keeper than Wade but with being out for so long he needs more time in first class cricket.

Strange thread. We were lucky to have Healy and Gilchrist in succession: We now have to persist with someone to see if they can fill the shoes.

That drop catch might be the un doing of Matthew Wade as the Australia keeper with Tim Paine knocking down the door.
Also, 'knocking down the door' implies that he's actually playing good cricket...rather than just 'being there'.

They both improved as keepers so Wade hopefully will get better. He's batting ok, so it's not likely at all that he'll be dropped. Runs count far more with a keeper than his actual keeping (even if the spin bowler weeps into his ice bath after each match.)

If Paine hadn't been injured we would never have heard of Wade and Haddin would still be gone. Paine is healthy again and scored a 60odd off not much in the BB the other night. So it would be logical to take both away with you with Wade having the advantage of incumbency.

I reckon... We are looking for a replacement for Hussey right? Well we have a brilliant striker of the ball, a hard runner between wickets and a more then capable number 6. How about turning Wade into a specialist batsman and Paine and at 7 and keeping?

Paine is in no way deserving of a call up at this point in time. If we were going to bring in another keeper it would be Haddin.

Paine is the best keeper out of the 3, and looks like he is starting to return to form. Going back to Haddin would be taking a step back in my opinion. He was great for a while, but it's time to move on.

I agree but runs in the big bash for Paine shouldn't have anything to do with his recall to the test team. Haddin has at least scored some good runs in the shield this summer. That is the only reason why I think he would come in if they decided to turn Wade into a specialist batsmen.

Tis nothing to do with runs, its all to do with keeping for Paine. We know he will score runs. I don't see Wade as a long term 6 either, I don't see him in the test side in a few years if he continues to give the opposition as many chances as he does in innings. Both his big scores this summer he's given atleast 4 chances to the opposition and they haven't taken them. This won't happen all the time.
