the other issue with taking the gloves of wade to play paine, hartley or haddin at 7 would be what it does to Wade's confidence with the bat.

typically when you take the gloves off someone their average with the bat go up - sangakarra and alec stewart. andy flower's went down but he didn't keep in only a half a dozen or so tests... although with those guys they weren't necessarilly "dropped" as a keeper, rather the workload was deemed to high, although in stewarts case he kinda was dropped in place of jack russell being the keeper but that is no shame as jack russell is widely acknowledge as one of the best keepers of his time.

Just read that Huss handed Wade the ODI and T20 song leading role. Didn't even realise there was a leader of the song for the short formats.

Is killing us... I fear everytime the ball beats the bat. He is in the process of killing Lyon's career.
I want to really like the guy, but he just does not cut it behind the stumps at the moment. Keeping was pretty average throughout the Aussie summer, and he was terrible in the First Test in India, hardly gloved a ball cleanly. Problem is who do you replace him with? Bad Haddin/Paine? If he is still keeper come the end of this series I can't see us sneaking a test off them.
Sam Whiteman looks a brilliant keeper from the limited times I have seen him. Very clean and unnoticable behind the stumps ( a good thing), but cant throw him into the fray at the moment.
Anyone have a solution?

Issue is if wade is dumped for his keeping skills(or lack there of) he would be getting replaced by haddin a bloke near the end of his career and somebody who like wade was always picked primarily for his batting.

We haven't picked a keeper for his keeping for a long long time and that won't change if they dump wade.

I know it may have been mentioned previously, but where else am I going to go to ask the cricket nerds of the nation??;)
I hate the fact that Australia seems to think that "keeping" is the second attriubute required as a "keeper/batsman".
FFS Gilly was a once in a lifetime cricketer, when are the selctors going to realise this??!

The fact you can't name an actual worthy replacement shows why they are going to keep him. Also it's a bit unfair to judge him to harshly on the last test match, first game in such conditions. He will improve. Our batting is also shaky as is so not giving him up.

Not judged just on the first test Masto, he probably cost Lyon 5 wickets this summer via drops and missed stumpings. Like I said I want to like the guy and to be fair I thought he showed a fair bit in the West Indies (on debut). But that was as assured as I have ever seen him. His glovework seems to have dropped markedly since then, and this seems to be affecting his batting confidence as well. Plus (in my eyes) the keeper needs to lead the way in the field, via voice and body language. Wade seems to go into his shell very quickly, I watched just about every ball of the Indian first innings and I could count on one hand the time I heard encourgement from Wade (especially when Dohni was starting to tee off).

In terms of a replacement, well Haddin is a show, and the suggestion of Chris Hartley is not the worst either. But fair call, hard to replace in the middle of a series, but being a selector was never meant to be an easy job.

Our batting is shaky and he is part of that problem. An average batsman, not a No 6, a slogger and terrible player of spin.

Did everyone miss Baddin's terrible keeping and dropped dolly?
Wade is considerably better than baddin as a keeper.

IF we do replace Wade it must be with Paine if he is fully fit or with a wicket keeper/batsman of equivalent or superior quality.

hartley is a superior keeper but also at the end of his career and an poor batsman.
Paine is a superior keeper and equivalent, marginally worse but acceptable batsman.

And did dan warna miss Wade's dropped dolly and terrible keeping? yep, you betcha. They are equal keepers and equal batsmen.

The wilful ignorance of Wade's failings is stunning.

He's very poor to spin with both gloves and bat. For everything else, he's excellent. Hopefully this series will be a big learning curve for him. If he can learn from his errors without losing confidence, he'll be a much better keeper come the Ashes and beyond.
