i was reading this article on kreuzer, and saw that he is spending a bit of time with matty allan in the development squad. since when is he back at carlton? wouldnt be too bad to have down at the club. didnt he come close to winning the brownlow 1 year too

The aggott was 3rd behind Crawf and Mercuri in the 99 brownlow. AA ruckman that year and a good reason as to why we played off in the gf.

matthew allan was the only ruckman in the history of the AFL that couldn't jump more than 1cm above the ground. His arms were also everywhere

very good ruckman, big on second efforts and attacking the ball after hit outs which I see Kreuze and Hammer doing. Good coverer of the ground and a good tap. He was an all round quality player.

I have thought about him and hoping they would invite him to run some clinics.

For mine his No 1 asset - very mobile.

Was thinking about this the other day. i think it shows we're becoming a real club as opposed to just a proffessional team. Alot of past players are wanting to come back and be involved, no matter how long they've been gone or how long they were at the club. Even blokes like Teague coaching the ants and Saddington simply coming back to play for the ants, guys who weren't even at the club long don't wanna leave. must be a pretty damn good place to be around at the moment me thinks.

Bodes well for our hopes of keeping our interstate players (Gibbs) from returning home

His 99 season could be seen as the defining year of what the modern day ruckman now looks like. Mobility like that hadn't really been seen too often before. Great kick for goal too. Just like Krueze. Or is Krueze just like Matty? Hmmmm.

Matty Allan - very underrated ruckman IMO.

Another one cruelled by injury when in his prime and dominating the comp.

I always thought one of his best qualities was knowing when to run forward. Just seemed to bob up for a goal at the exact time, and caught the opposition rucks sleeping.

As for second efforts, not sure he can teach a lot to Kreuzer here........he was good, but Kreuzer was the second and third effort King before he ever wore navy Blue.

Could probably give Robbie W a few tips on how to have fun on one foot.

Before anyone thinks of trading Hampson to the GC, just don't. Our ruck stocks are only just recovering from the disastrous decision to trade Mark Porter to the Kangaroos. (From memory, Allan's manager didn't allow Matty to tell the club the full extent of his injury.)

Never forget the "bowling alley" gift goal in the 99 PF. Sweet.

:thumbsu: From memory, it came just on three quarter time and probably gave us that little extra to go on and snatch it in the final term.

Back in the late 90s I was at RMIT and I was on a lift to a lecture with a mate when Matty Allan walks in. Very scruffy bloke and for some bizzare reason he could not stop staring at my mate's old Asic sneakers. LOL!
