man u
he guys just thought i would bring this guy up because in my opinion he is one of the most underated players going around. he beats his player every week he is as tough as nails great mark. even though harley is our captain and a great player i think matty egan has gone past him as our second best defender behind scarlett. like to hear all your thoughts... GO CATS

absolutely agree 100%... Just try bringing that up to other clubs.. I reckon next year If he keeps up his consistancy he should be pretty well regarded, Just like Rooke was after this season.

Egan was out of sorts during our big losing streak this season, and it was probably due to Scarlett getting rubbed out for that fortnight that started it off. Confidence is a fickle beast, and Egan suffered from a loss of it during this time. To his credit, he did bounce back in the second half of the season, and I have no doubts that he will have learned a lot from it. Harley is now more suited to a third tall role, given that he is still not back to his best since the surgery. Hopefully with a proper preseason even that can be corrected.

Egan still has a long way to go and is far better when Scarlo 7 Harls are around. Faded a lot in 2nd 1/2. Servicable player but with natural imprtovement will be very solid over the next few years...Can take a good grab and is not the worst defender we have on our list...That would be SPENCER!

He was expected to be the number one key defender even though he was in his second season with less than 20 games.

His strength is his size and judgment - weakness is speed. However in the last game Buddy carved us up in the first quarter and whn harley went off, Egan took him and he was virtually out of the game - not sure if that's not just Buddy though.

Most improved and did play all matches.

the more rated they get, the worse they perform, leave them do their job and dont put pressure on him,

I think it's more a case of "the more rated they get, the greater scrutiny placed under them".

There are alot of admirable traits in Matty, but he does still have various means and ways to go. I would stop short of calling him a rock solid defender as of now, though I would expect that soon enough, he'll be recognised as just that.

I'm not so much worried about his general speed over ground (if anything, his running game has improved quite markedly since he first arrived), though it certainly isn't a strength of his. I think one thing that Matty needs to work on (and this will come with time and experience) is decision making. Not so much picking out the right options when disposing of the ball, but more in knowing which acts are in the best interest of the team, and when. I still feel too many mistakes are made by Matty that don't necessarilly need to be made; too many instances where flying for the ball wasn't playing the percentages (although, I suppose, his courage to at least attempt an act to win the game must be somewhat commended).

Generally speaking I guess, less errors to be made. Given the way Matty plays the game, his margin for error is very small. Unless the attempted mark or spoil or what have you is ultimately accomplished, the result is usually an error overblown unnecessarilly on the last line of defense. Strictly speaking, many of the mistakes he's prone to aren't acceptable down there.

I have to agree with you there. he is a great player for only playing less than 25 games an i can see him bein a All Australian CHB in years to come. Good on ya champ
