Any fans on here? I've recently started listening to them. More than shocked where most of their music was released  Before their time?

Rambin Rose baby - and Kick out the Jams MotherFlockers - they are awesome. If you get the chance try to get a copy of the bootleg of their performance outside the 68 Democratic Convention - Fred Sonic Smith ruled man!

A definite forerunner to the punk movement.

Check out the guitar synergy between Wayne Kramer and Fred "Sonic" Smith.

Oh yeah. One of the bands I got into during my teens - 20 years + later and they're still one of my favourites. High energy rock doesn't come any better.

Whether they were "before their time" is hard to ascertain. I reckon they were a product of the times - heavily influenced by the Who as well as soul and free jazz. Plus the militant White Panther movement adapting them as the house band. I don't reckon they would have existed in the mid 70s. However their influence on punk, heavy metal, stoner rock, etc is undeniable.

well I have been listening to the MC5 all my adult life and I would advise you to ensure you listen to the following:

radio birdman
eARLY aLICE COOPER BAND records
Iggy pop and the stooges funhouse, self titled and raw power.
hellacopters
Sonic rendevouz band

Saw the Mc5 dtk shows a few years back and mark arm from mudhoney did the vocals, was awesome night!!
nicke from hellacopters played guitar and evan dando turned up also to sing...

just love the detroit rock and soul influences merging on this track.

rob tyner was the white James brown, RIP.

Kick Out the Jams is still one of my favorite rock albums, one of the best 'live' albums ever released IMHO. The energy that was captured over those two nights is something very special and very rare.

Agree with the above posters recommendations. You might also enjoy another Detroit proto-punk band called Death. Cool dudes and cool back story too.

Here's a taste.
