With all the McBean love (mostly correct) i think this kid has slid under the radar a bit. He is my absolute favourite from last draft, pretty decent effort considering he is up against Vlas and McBean. He is so clever and his kicking is close to the best on the list, and he really seems to be knuckling down to be an AFL player which may have been the knock on him pre draft.

I couldnt find the coburg report for a few of those missing rounds and i think he was rested in round 5 as he was not mentioned in the report. Turning into a clearance machine. He was already a brilliant forward in his u/18 days both with kicking and setting up goals but seems to be going to the next level in the midfield at VFL level. Really was hoping he would get a run this year even just one game so he is fired up for pre season, but next year with a full pre season and no injuries (touch wood) he could really explode.
Add to all of this Chocco's cub watch. In it he says he believe McDonough is the most natural footballer on our list.

Just some extracts from the coburg report
Round 1
Matt McDonough
Played a solid defensive game when down back, and provided great run off half-back as well. Also had an impact when moved forward and into the midfield during the second half.
Round 3
Matt McDonough
Started across half-back and then was moved through the midfield and up forward due to rotations. Was really lively after half-time, producing possibly his best performance of the year. Marking was a highlight of his game.
Round 4
Matt McDonough
Played centre-forward, after being used down back the previous few weeks. Kicked two telling goals and had five clearances in his 18 possessions. Close to his best game at VFL level.
Round 6
Matt McDonough
Played midfield/ forward, kicked three goals, and applied plenty of forward pressure, with six tackles. Intensity at the ball, and opponent, continues to be a real feature of his game
Round 7
Matt McDonough
Played a really solid game, starting forward and then moving into the midfield. Had 25 touches and used the ball extremely well. Stoppage and contested work again were features of his performance.
Round 10
Matthew McDonough
Was used in a variety of roles throughout the match – up forward, down back and through the midfield – in an attempt to plug holes due to injury. Was just okay by his standards.
Round 11
Matthew McDonough
Played through the middle and up forward. Was okay with his defensive pressure, but didn’t have enough offensive involvement in the match.
Round 12
Matt McDonough
Played his best game for the year so far, as a midfielder and forward. Picked up over 25 disposals and contributed to the scoreboard with three or four score involvements.
Round 13
Matthew McDonough
Although he was a little down on his previous week’s form, he still played a valuable role for the team through the midfield and up forward. Had nine clearances, which underlined his improvement in this area.
Round 14
Matthew McDonough
Was a bit sick on the day, so lacked his usual energy and buzz. Played a handy role up forward, however, kicking a goal and helping set up some others.
Round 15
Matthew McDonough
Had a very solid game through the midfield, picking up 20 contested possessions and 15 clearances. Was one of our best players on a day where we were well beaten in the midfield. Continues to improve in all areas of his game.
Round 16
Matthew McDonough
Played a really good game through the midfield and up forward. Helped set up many scoring opportunities with his effective disposal. Tackle pressure and repeated efforts have become a highlight of his game.
