We definitely need a key position forward who can kick goals and some quick mid fielders who can break the lines in the mould of Wojo!!

Cameron Mooney is pass his prime and Centre Half Forward is a void!!

I would not mind this scenario:

1)If Gazza stays, we off load 2 to 3 premiership players for Patty Ryder or Courtney Dempsey. Mark Blake, Josh Hunt and Andrew Mackie are 3 premiership players who can easily slot into any opposiing AFL side.

2)If Gazza goes, the Cats will have sufficient room in the cap to make an approach to a key position forward-ruckman who would love to play in a top 4 AFL side.

At the end of the 2009 season, the Pies recognised their weakness and went for Darren Jolly and Luke Ball. We have a weakness in the Centre Half Forward position and ruck position. Hence, we should make a play for Patty Ryder/Courtney Dempsey and Jamie Charman.

There is no harm in trying.

Mark Blake will never become a dominant ruckman in the mould of Darren Jolly, Aaron Sandilands and Clark from the Lions.

In order for the Cats to make the next step forward, they have to blood in Menzel, Taylor Hunt, Mitchell Brown and Marcus Drum. And, past premiership players like Josh Hunt, Andrew Mackie and Matthew Stokes may have to be traded whilst they are in their prime for top line draft picks.

The Cats are better off in rebuilding their side with a 2 year plan for a tilt at another flag. Lets look at the facts. After Collingwood made the 2003 Grand Final, they did not make the preliminary final until 2007. The Pies took 3 years to rebuild their playing list again.

However, we still have a core group of players and there is a need to inject some fresh young faces into the side who are young and are willing to learn the Geelong way. WE just need some leg speed along each line to break the zones and presses of opposing teams. We only had Varcoe and Wojo who had the leg speed to break the lines.

IN conclusion, I would rather see the Cats avoid the Brisbane Lions and Adelaide Crows scenario by rebuilding the side to beat the current trends of the game ie zones and presses.

THE GOVERNOR

Sorry Gov, Pies do not beat us because of Ball and Jolley.

But I agree we need to blood the young ones, including Simpson. If Ottens goes around again, he can tutor our developing rucks.
