If McKernan could hold down the fwd/2nd ruck position could Jenkins conceivably play as a KPD if either Talia or Rutten went down? Has the size and movement but not sure on the footy smarts on the better forwards.

Hoping for a ripper 2014 for Shaun. Has gone past Jenkins, and really, that wasn't hard. Has more potential in his little finger than Jenkins, and thats nothing against him.

Not too hard to do. Would love to know what some on this board see in Jenkins game.

I would like to see Danger carry us single handedly and get us over the line and win us some games when the team is down.

I am not saying he hasnt, but the genuine blue chip players like Ablett and Buddy have done this repeatedly.

I'm hoping we're never down and he never has to get us over the line :thumbsu:

History says yes we will be, but I liked what I saw of our "captain" in the Blues game.

Some of his plays in the 4th were pivotal for us winning that game, super goal was awesome.

I sometimes wish supergoals was introduced in the season, it is exciting seeing them kicked and the tactics that some players employ in regards to kicking them.

I thought this was another one of those epic bumps from three years ago. It's only from nine hours ago.

Perhaps a tad premature.

I'm firmly on Team Shaun though. Could solve a lot of problems for us if he comes good.

At least with Pods up forward, Smack will get (or should get) the number 2 defender.
That's the great value in having him. But he won't just take the best defender, he will also be selfless in working to hold off one or more defenders and clear paths. Smack should benefit greatly from his presence, as will walker on his return

Thats when I would also like to see how other forwards play when Tex and Pods get no. 1 and 2, the rippling effect should allow players like JJ,Lynch, LJ a lot more freedom.

Porps should benefit from having Betts in the team ideally.

Has the run but I really wasn't convinced with him down back in the GWS game

geeze, short memories around here. How many ex-basketballers with 16 games under their belts have you seen lead an attack as well as Jenkins did last year? He did everything right except kick for goal but I'll blame the #4 guernsey for that seeing as he kicked 11.3 in 2012.

McKernan has "gone past" Jenkins if you look at the form guide for the last three games but Jenkins is miles in front on career form. Obviously when it comes to selections right now you pick McKernan, but once Jenkins gets his confidence back coming off his injury he's a much more reliable quantity IMO. Look at his impact in the last five minutes of the NM game, he really stood up and his efforts lead to a couple of goals to add to the three he'd already kicked himself. Not the only time he's shown real class either, its just the easiest example to find video for.

again, short memories... I'm as hopeful as anyone that McKernan comes good for us but three years of spudding it up is a hell of a trend to try and buck.

Has a great set of hands & can kick like a mule.

Confidence & concentration for the whole game are the keys.

Has the potential to be better than Tippett as can physically match him & has better natural football talent.

If we continue to treat him as an outlier, like others, he won't gain the confidence. We gave it to the Reilly's and mackays, but not this guy. Have never understood the variational selection standards. Same with Martin or even tambo.

It all comes down to confidence!

Sando appears to believe in him.

Give him a decent month injury free.

Something about his eyes that he finally looks switched on.

Would be the missing link to our line up as crucially gives sauce chop out

And most certainly is our next best ruckman. If not our best when sauce is playing injured.

He nearly got us over the line in the 2012 prelim. He was an absolute monster in that last quarter.

Pretty much.

I'm expecting him to make enough improvement to get an offer to go home and for him to announce it the moment our season ends and it to be the talking point of this board for the summer.

We can either delist a clogger or trade a player. Surely not a difficult decision. If we end up trading a player because of the value he provided during our season, having started as a clogger, then we win. Same with Martin, he'll be gone at end of year as well. Either a delisting or a player with a heap of games this year with value. But probably not in our best perceived team.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong , but I believe Smack is a FA at the end of this year.

Ok - you're wrong. :p

He only becomes a free agent after 8 years at the club, which wouldn't be for another 2 or 3 years.

He's out of contract at the end of the season, but that just works the same as before free agency - trade or draft (unless delisted).

Smack is walking along what I call the "SELLAR-HAWKINS Spectrum", both big bodied players, one of which took a long time to develop and the other never did. For most of his career it has appeared that he has been drifting towards the Sellar end of the spectrum, but then periodically there would be sharp deviations taking him towards the Hawkins end of the spectrum. So despite already spending many years in the system most of us are non the wiser as to which end of the spectrum he would finally settle in - we have seen these Hawkins moments before, but will they become more frequent?

In the past I have been keen to retain him, hoping that he might finally come good much like Hawkins did in the 2011 finals at age 24 from memory. However at the end of last year I thought that he really needed to show a bit more in 2014 to retain a spot going forward. Hopefully he has turned the corner, but I won't get too excited yet, as he has had the propensity of sliding down to the Sellar end of the spectrum far too often.

Sellar is a different bag of chips. Size advantage as a junior, which evaporated and so he slid, right into our stupid arms.

slow, average hands, unfit etc etc..

Exactly Sellar showed a good work ethic in the end but never any of the talent or raw ability Smack has given us glimpses of.
