Think he was a bit lucky, you never know what the tribunal will do. Good to see some common scence.

1:He wasn't in the pack really
2:Not looking at the ball
3:Jump on player when not in marking thing
4:Kneed Stevens in the head
2-4 weeks

I think he was pretty lucky.

Sure his eyes were on the ball but he still wasn't in the contest and smashed a bloke in the head with his knee. It could be considered reckless.

There was certainly nothing malicious in it, it was just poor judgment.

Players have gone for less.

Stuffed if I know how Kosi was cleared though. Blokes get done for love taps yet he can stand over a bloke on the ground and intentionally apply a fist to the face...?

If he had a record he would have been gone in my opinion.

But he hasn't been reported besides that incident so that probably helped him in a sense.

Never in doubt, Eyes on the ball clearly attempting to mark. No problem

McP is a very clean player and I have no doubt he was going for one of his specky defensive marks we all know and love, but he got it all wrong in the end. Was late, out of position and changed his mind for a spoil and at the point of impact didn't have his eye on the ball - it looked worse that what it was and I thought the MRP would see it badly and give him a week or two.

Pretty happy myself at the decision and fair enough too given it was clumsy more than intentional.

I think he was very lucky. He is one of the fairest players around and there was no malicious intent but it was incredibly clumsy and the tribunal do have negligent or reckless contact in their arsenal for incidents just like this.

I cannot make sense of the tribunal, ever.

Agreed, they usually get rid of players for being reckless which clearly this was. If it was Farmer/Solomon/etc they would have gone for a few weeks in my mind. McPharlin the clean cut christian gets off.

No doubt he didn't mean to smash Stevens in the face, but it's a joke that it wasn't deemed reckless/head contact/high impact, which would give him at least a week.

Consider yourselves lucky!

What was the outcome with Stevens? Was it "only" concussion in the end? If so, might have had something to do with it. I reckon McPharlin is pretty lucky he didn't break his jaw, I'm sure the Maxwell defence wouldn't have applied to us.

If you check out the footage from behind you will see that Macpharlap was not running directly at Stevens but in a line that would have passed him to Stevens left.

Steven actually contributed to the contact somewhat by courageously moving into Macpharlap's path while he was in the air.

That is why I always thought He would get off.

How the frick does Elvis get off, but Shaw get a week??? And how did Elvis get off if MJ gets four weeks and Farmer 6 weeks in '07??? I mean, come on...

Bahai, son, bahai. Not Christian. And I'm sure Elvis' game calling on TV is already better than Michael's...

Before you go and call McPharlin reckless and lucky to get away with it, consider this. His alternative was to pull out of the contest and allow Stevens to take an uncontested mark. What sort of footballer in their right mind would put in the short steps and dog a contest just because there was a chance that they might hurt the other player with the contact?

Elvis did exactly the right thing. If Stevens had a better run at the ball, Elvis would've been the one in huge danger of coming out of that contest on a stretcher. Running back with the flight of the ball into a contest is one of the hardest and most courageous things to do in this game. It's the best way to get seriously injured. It's terrible that it's been demonised to the point that dogging the contest is seen as the right thing to do. I'm not even 20 and this isn't the game I grew up with.

The problem is McPharlin wasn't in the contest and arrived late. Sure, it was hard to judge and unlucky, but that doesn't change the fact he was late and kneed a bloke in the head as a result.

Yeah, sure, easy for you to say watching it on tele. Elvis didn't even look at what was coming the other way until he'd already made his leap. Pretty much exactly like he was supposed to. How the hell was he supposed to stop in the air when he realised that 1) he wasn't going to make it and 2) there was a guy who had courageously moved directly into his path?

a win for common sense, like the maxwell bump, should never be suspended for an incident like that.... however the way that the tribunal has gone in the last couple of years im surprised that he didnt go for it. also glad that stevens wasnt badly injured :thumbsu:

It kind of makes the Ling incident,tm, seem rather mundane too. In the Ling incident,tm, the orange hair and freckles clearly started the contact by waving about and exciting the raging bull, yet because Solomon is a bad boy surfer known for cutting people off from "his" waves, he gets 8 weeks. The tribunal is a joke.
